My vote: learn to DIY :-O
I could never get barbers/hairdressers to shape my hair to my directions/needs - I have what I call 'toilet-brush' hair, unruly and growing at all disobedient angles - so I said, "screw it!", just gonna do it myself.
NB. The first few times are pretty scary…especially the back! I went and bought a Wahl Clipper but was too scared to use it (still in its box) so I've resorted to millimeter by millimeter cutting at the back.
