this is a used ipad so I am not sure sound like a good deal for $399 but wonder what you guys think, kids would like one for a joint birthday present, looking to spend < $400 and this may be it. Need some advice thanks

I have just googled with the same information and came up with $600+ for the price, so do you think this is an error? Guess I really do not know anything about this stuff, so advice would be good thanks
Well, first of all, if you were really offered a circular iPad, then it must be a fake. Because there is only Wi-Fi and cellular models available.
If it is a used iPad, then go to ebay.com.au, search through the completed items and see what is the current market price for similar items.
If is a new iPad, then compare it with Apple Store / BigW prices ($400 is a good deal from my knowledge for a cellular model).

Will you be able to see it / test it / try it before you buy? The main concerns are:
- Is the iPad iCloud locked? If yes, make sure it is unlocked by the seller before paying. Otherwise, an iCloud locked iPad is completely useless - just a paper weight. Apple will not unlocked it - basically it will be treated as a stolen iPad.
- Check the IMEI. Make sure it is not black listed - again… another indicator that it is a stolen iPad.
Since the introduction of iOS 7, you now need to be much more careful before you buy any i-device.
DO NOT buy an iCloud locked iPad.
