  • Updated this morning, i don't like the new button, way too big

    • It has to be that big in order to preserve the 4:3 ratio for photos. Otherwise you won't be able to see the top and bottom of your photo when you're taking it.

what changed so that they had to preserve the ratio?

        • Before, the camera view took up the whole screen, which is in a 16:9 ratio, meaning that after you take a photo, there is a bit at the top and bottom of the photo (in landscape) you couldn't see on the camera view. Now, it's as if it's "zooming out" a bit so that you can see the whole picture being taken.

  • is this for tablets? Ihave a galaxy s3 and doesnt let me download it.

  • "This app is incompatible with all of your devices."

Not a bad effort, considering I have a Gingerbread phone, and ICS tablet and phone, plus a Jellybean tablet and phone.

I wonder exactly what it is compatible with?

Been having fun with the new Lens Blur this morning. Bokeh! No SLR required.

    • Likewise, the algorithms they use are quite clever! Post-processing focus reminds me of the Lytro.

  • Not compatible with Nexus 7.

  • How does this compare with the existing stock camera on the Nexus 4? Worth the update?

    • depends if you like the change in UI or not. I'd assume it would be a better all round app though, otherwise why would google bother!

Seems like a decent update from a quick test I had with it.

In some sense it is getting worse — significant chunk of screen wasted by the shutter button (to make photo's 5:3 aspect ratio). You also lost settings such as exposure, self-timer, etc.

The only redeeming feature is the new Lens Blur — and this is huge. You basically take a picture, and slide your camera vertically up for it to capture some 3D information to calculate the depth of field. It then allows you to refocus any part of your picture to produce the blur effect of some camera lens.

      • You can enable manual exposure through the settings and advanced. Although yes this is very limited.

Hopefully they bring back some functionality in future updates, it looks like there is stacks of room for more settings toggles under the advanced panel! (Not that I every really used the manual settings much)

        lens Blur is quite impressive!
