Olympus OM-D E-M5 Twin Lens Kit (14-42, 40-150mm) Myer in-Store $650

710

Note: link to website is a different price.

I was in Perth CBD Myer earlier and noticed they were doing the Olympus OM-D E-M5 twin lens kit at $680. Don't think it's even been anywhere near that price before.

It was reduced at the till to $650 due to one of those "spend $xx get $xx off deals" so overall I think this a great price for a decent (albeit slightly older) camera…especially as you get 2 okay-ish lenses with it.

This appears to be in-store only, and had a proper printed sign as part of the Mid-Season Sale, so I assume it's in all stores?

Will attempt to attach photo of in-store sign now…

Edit: Almost successful, if you tilt your head to one side and stand 5 foot away from the screen to view it! :-)

        • Was the lens from Myer?

  • its a BARGAIN

  • All sold out in Victoria apparently :( Just called Myer @ Bourke
Apparently they all sold out a week ago.

    • There's stock in Fountain Gate according to the website

      • Just had a call, they have a model with just the body. Apparently someone filched the lens lol

  • This really is a great deal for a great camera and a couple of decent lenses. If you're on the fence, get off it, assuming there's stock somewhere near you.

  • +1

Sold out Vic - Northland, Doncaster, CBD.. Not sure about Chaddy

  • +2

Aww. If only it was the 12-50mm lens. I already have both of these on my pen epm1.

    • -1

But the e-m5 craps all over the e-pm1. Better sensor, 5-axis IS, EVF, etc.

      • +1

Talk about obvious. No one was talking about which is better. I'd just rather not have two sets of the same lens.

        • Fair enough. Could always flog the lenses off though. The large one fetches about 150, no idea on the smaller one.

  • +1

Stock going to be scarce. Sale ending on Monday. But it will prob be ozbargained by tonight. Lol

  • Damn, that's a crazy deal. Cheaper than used.

  • What! That's less than half I paid for it. :(

Therefore, they wont selll the black

        • wow, hopefully still some left on Saturday, good price

        • Do they have white colour for this camera?

        • No. Silver

        • Yeah thats what i thought, but louis litts said there 6 white one left in store.

  • dammit. none left in perth.

  • Full of regret from getting the NEX6 for $600 now… really good deal if you managed to get it

    • -1

NEX 6 is a full on camera that's capable of keeping up with really good sensor, EVF (IMHO NEX6 is better than EM5 as a package) and not to mention NOT tiny like a toy.

Remember its not the gear that makes a good photo, its how you use what you have, composition, lighting…exposure.

      • +2

There is good and bad between the 2 formats.
The E-M5 isn't tiny like a toy. The E-P series is tiny. E-M5 is very similar sized to NEX6.

  • any more?

  • has anyone checked out stores in sydney?? Is it australia wide??

    • +2

Yes it is Australia wide. Bought one from Sydney CBD Myer. All good. Very happy.

      • did you get it recently? Hope there is one for me.

        • Bought it today. Last one at the Sydney store. Might want to check other stores.

  • Bugger. Thanks :)

  • Any left in Vic?

    • As previously mentioned 0 left in Vic.
From the looks of it, only Brisbane has stock of it.

  • I got the last (ex Display) one at Chaddy, the only other stock was maybe ex display at southland, I called southland and they said they didm't have stock but I did hear someone in the background saying display only.

    • +1

Yes the in-body IS runs continuously on firmware 1.1. Updated to 2.0 and it is all good! (IS only kicks in when shutter is half pressed).

  • I would like to get one!

  • +2

Updated the firmware. Great unit, I downsized from an SLR, the pics are great and it's much lighter to carry.

  • +1

Got the last one in SA this am from city store :) :) :)
    None left in others

  • -2

All out in Brisbane Myer Center, some jerk reserved it all. I went there before 10 in the morning…they opened earlier than their announced time of 10 sigh…

On the plus side Sony is having a cost price sale so I'm buying the A7 or A7R!

    • What's the price for A7/A7R?

    • +1

Website say they opened at 8:30am today. The sales said 2 people got 1 each when the door open, another sold minutes later and 2 were reserved by phone. I got the demo unit on shelf at 9:30.

      • -1

My mistake about the hours. I was going by this http://www.myercentreshopping.com.au/Centre-Info/Trading-Hou…

The price is $1691. I think I might not get it..the guy at the Sony Center (VideoPro) might be bluffing about them not making any profit…It's also $1691 on the videopro website.

        • $1,691 is a good price for A7. :)

        • Yea thats even better than SonyX Prices.

        • It's a good price but the price has been like that for the last couple of months. I walked into the store and was told that today was a cost price sale due to Easter so they could do a deal for me on the A7. Judging by the deal I was given and the price on their online store they didn't even give me a $1 discount…

  • no stock in eastgardens, sydney NSW

  • I too went to Brisbane City Myer. All sold out. They checked around on the computers for me, told me they had stock at Townsville. Called them - last display model in silver - they were able to do the transaction over the phone and post the item out to me. Phew.

    • Grats, did you get the 12-50 kit for $925? or the twin lens?

  • Twin lens kit for 650

When I asked the lady about the condition of the display model she kindve laughed and said she doesn't think anyone had touched it ever.

Given its Townsville - I believe her lol

  • Checked today. Hornsby DJ in Westfield had atleast one set on display.

    • Huh, DJ? lol. this is Myer we are talking about.

  • Looks like this one has been well and truly exhausted!

Myer still have that "$15 off for each $75 spent" offer on which means that they have got the E-M10 (http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/cameras/olympus-om-d-e-m…) for $804 with the 14-42mm lens. As far as I can see that's pretty much the same price as you'd pay with grey importers.

Given that I'm pretty new to the photography game, I'd appreciate some feedback on whether a) this is a decent camera for a beginner (my research indicates it is) and b) whether you guys think this is a reasonable deal?

    Thanks in advance folks.

    • +1

The E-M10 is more "amateur" friendly.
E-M5 and E-M1 is more aimed at semi-pro and pro respectively.

E-M5 in this deal is better value as it is better than the E-M10 in some areas, such as image stabilization.

E-M10 is a gimped version of the E-M1, no weather proofing, no 5 axis image stabilisation.
However the trade off is that E-M10 is aimed at newbies, so it is easier to use and more user friendly with the people who don't know much about f-stops, ev etc.

It is cheaper than the grey imports which is good, however for the same price depending on who you ask, quite a few enthusiasts would recommend getting the E-M5 (e.g. pay $805 for E-M5 if you can find any where).

    • +1

Yes E-M10 is a good camera. Same viewfinder (or similar) to E-M5.

3-axis IS is good, not as great as the one in E-M5. Has same image quality. And it is smaller!

I am sure you'll learn alot from using the E-M10. Price is good at 804$

      • +1

        yeah..

The e-m5 is weather sealed unlike the e-10 and has 5 vs 3-axis image stabilisation

On the other hand, the e-m10 is smaller and has touch screen and wifi abilities and the collapsing pancake zoom lens it comes with makes for a tiny profile.

Apart from that they are near identical cameras, both wonderful tools you can achieve amazing results with!
