How does free shipping on Amazon work... to Australia?

Hi everyone,

I have tried to figure this out over the past few days but am still confused. I was hoping someone could clarify this for me.

So not too long ago someone posted a deal regarding the Crucial MSATA drives. A friend of mine purchased it and it was free shipping to Australia.

Recently I have been looking at items on Amazon that also say free shipping, but when it comes to checkout time and postage costs are quite high and the free shipping only works to US/Canada.

So I guess my question is, is there a way to immediately tell if the item will be sent with no postage costs to Australia?

Any clarity on this would be greatly appreciated.

    99.99% sure there's no free shipping to Australia, deals here often include the cost of it on the headers.
    A lot of Amazon products cant be shipped at all, the ones that can, have a tag called Amazon Global Shipping or something like that.

    I've only got free shipping once from Amazon, they sent me a defective product they refunded me the shipping and send a replacement via express shipping.

    Otherwise unheard of… I wish Amazon would open a proper warehouse/store in Aus… something like Amazon prime would be nice.

    Never seen anything free shipping to Australia, and I have been a regular Amazon customer since last millennium.
    The first Xmas they were open they sent all customers nice mouse pads as a thank-you.

      To be fair, they have offered free shipping to Australia before, and not that long ago. Last time was back at the end of 2011, if you spent over $25 if memory serves. I bought a bunch of blu-rays - was before they clearly marked on the page which discs were locked to one region.

      Normally it's a short term deal, and it's not for everything (as noted above, Amazon won't ship certain things to Australia at all), but it has happened. Would be brilliant if they brough it back in fact…

        The OP is talking about the US store. The free shipping was UK.

    Bit of a shame for us, but it still often works out cheaper buying locally, even factoring in the shipping costs.

    Didn't someone say they got free shipping by asking the Amazon chat representative for a better deal. I remember someone saying that on the PLY 128gb Memory sticks.
