FREE Public Transport in VIC (May Be Aus Wide) for Veterans & War Widows 24-26 April

Moved to Forum: Original Link

What a great move by Public Transport Victoria to support our heroes. Valid 24-26 April.

If you’re a Veteran or War Widow, you can travel for free on Victoria’s public transport network on 24, 25 and 26 April 2014. Just wear your uniform or carry the appropriate ID and you won’t need to use your myki.

On ANZAC Day Friday, 25 April 2014 free travel is extended to Australian Defence Force members, Scouts and Guides and school students travelling to ANZAC Day parades, provided you are wearing your uniform.

If you are not eligible for free travel on ANZAC Day, top up with myki money and you will only pay the weekend and public holiday rate of $6 for all day travel in Zones 1 and 2.

      This is offered every year

just make it free for them all the time…

    • Make it free for all pensioners….outside of peak hour, so they stop clogging the system for no reason.

weekend rate was only $3 before, now $6. Rip off since expensive myki

  • This has been the case at every ANZAC Day that I can remember in NSW too, I'm talking back to the 1980s.

If Myki was implemented properly they could ride for free every day like they deserve.

I dont use public transport very often but when I do I swear I'm the only one who swipes their myki card…I think most people ride for free everyday anyway

      • Edit…and for those that say you don't swipe, I meant touch on and touch off

      • alot of people have monthly/yearly etc tickets which makes the whole touching on thing redundant.

        • which makes the whole touching on thing redundant.

how will you know how to reimburse trains vs trams vs buses if people done touch on/off so you know how much each service is being used ?

  • They also used to do free transport into the city for the dawn service each year.

  • Same in WA for ANZAC Day

In recognition of the great sacrifice made by the men and women of our armed forces, all veterans, serving and returned service personnel wearing service uniforms, campaign ribbons or medals can travel FREE on ANZAC Day.

I use my DVA (white or gold) card or Retired ADF ID Card

I'll have you know I am widowed to a proud veteran of the Broden wars.

Does this include the war on terror? i.e. families of victims of 9/11, bali bombing, and other such attacks?

      how disrespectful of you.

    • MrZ, I honestly can't believe you're making lite of the subject. You should be on your knees thanking those people for what they did so you could live the way you do! So bloody disrespectful.

    • I find it odd that MrZ's comment, which has a measure of validity to it, is considered less desirable (going from the votes) than the one directly above it.

      • There's nothing at all offensive about my comment. The original deal doesn't clearly state whether one has to be a casualty of war as a soldier or civilian.

  • Free public transport in SA… every public holiday…. for Seniors Card holders…
