Does Bing Lee see OzBargain as high security risk??

I bought a Galaxy Note 8.0 from the link shown on Ozbargain last week.

I received a confirmation after the sale and was awaiting the email with shipping details. After one week I followed them up. And was shocked by the response. I can assure you I used my standard CBA issued credit card using the link from Ozbargain on 4th April, nothing else was dodgy just a straight everyday online transaction for what I believed to be a good bargain:

The email from an alleged manager Tristan.

[email protected]

Nicholas,

I will not be allowing you to purchase anything from Bing lee Online, not now or in the future.

The nature of your transactions/cards used and or method of transaction is considered HIGH risk by our security system.

<MOD: Name removed>

Manager.

So my question is does Bing Lee see Ozbargain as a high risk on their security system because the credit card I used is used daily and always has credit limit and has never been questioned before.

          more like ignorant……

        • The owners say they are Chinese in their latest ad.

Yes I'm taking their statement at face value.

        • Why would the promote that?

He sure did "enjoy" the Australian service we so often receive.

    • +2

I think all you're missing is "white Australian" in your post.

      Try harder next time.

Not the smartest thing to say on a website filled with Asians and Indians lol.

Escalation to high up usually works.

Recently, I bought a pram online from HN. They sent the shipment tracking no. But after several days of tracking when the status didn't get changed, I followed up with the shipping company. The CSA at auburn office told that the item was never received by them and I should check with HN.

I escalated to the NSW operation manager and within 30 minutes the lady (CSA) called and promised to look into details. The ops manager too emailed me and said the he will provide all details within 3 days. They gave me minute details of their investigations that the package was actually lost either by HN or by their pickup van; but did not promise to solve the problem.

I then escalated to the CEO(thanks to google/LinkedIn). I also wrote to the ecommerce retail head or HN.

Finally, after a delay of two weeks, the courier company sorted it out with HN and gave me an alternate shipment. HN too gave me a $25 refund for all my problems.

Tried this trick 3 times when I was back in my home country. It worked every time. People dump so much information on the web, just used it to my advantage and got lucky.

    All the best.

      What's your home country?

We have a fraud check system which asses individuals.

    How true!

  • Thanks for the warning, won't consider buying from Bing Lee in the future

  • +3

Not sure if you actually received an answer to your question. The BingLee fraud protection system would be basing its fraud checks on your personal transactional details and would have nothing to do with ozbargain as a referrer of the purchase. So the answer is no, they don't see ozbargain as a security risk in your case.

I've only had good transactions with Bing Lee.

TV - $780 at HN - non negotiable, $750 at AO

Went into Bing Lee and they gave it to me for $680. And on top of that, it turns out to have a crack in in when I opened it, so had to exchange it at an interstate store. The manager was great, he called me back to confirm and gave me a name to the interstate store and I exchanged it no problem.

Also bought a tablet for alot cheaper. But I always go instore to buy so never had to deal with 'Tristan'…

      "Accusation"?
      Is this better?

This is your first post and you joined today. Are you are employed by Bing Lee?

In my experience as a former employee, it really depended on luck and who you dealt with. Some workmates were seriously useless at customer experience and just wanted to make a sale, and once that sale was made they didn't care at all. Some managers were ruthless and just cared about getting good numbers and looking good to head office. On the other hand you sometimes do get good salesmen and good managers. Sometimes you get the gadget geeks who work there to get paid for playing with technology and don't care so much about pure sales, and they are a great source of knowledge and discount very quickly.

Sometimes you get really intense rivalries between stores for some reason. I even was treated like dirt a few times when picking up stock from other stores for customers.

Unfortunately almost everyone that I knew who I would actually buy from, have all quit for varying reasons. Many, like me, only ever viewed it as a temporary job.

Tristan has deleted his LinkedIn profile. LOL OzBargain gets another one. Online "Customer Service" reps for terrible companies should really all create aliases and not use their real names. When will they learn?

I hope Australia gets Amazon soon, they seem to be the only place that fix things when things go wrong, and do what they say they will.

Or he could have just acted in a professional manner in the first place.

    • +2

I can't see his Facebook profile either. Did anyone see a ginger leaving the Bing Lee head office with all his shit packed up in a box?

      • I wouldn't be happy about this. I'd rather they get an act and proper training and don't move unsuitable people into a customer facing service role. Like my restaurant comment earlier here. One silly waiter can ruin the whole experience where perhaps everything else would have been ok. But then again, all the negative Facebook comments don't really give me much confidence that this is a once off issue.

I want to send an email to Bing Lee just so I can get a response like this from Tristan. Instant celebrity on how not to respond to customers. Sort of like the send mail with $5 included to receive a personalised response from Santa but for free!

Perhaps the OzBargain community just coined another term 'Tristan'.

Scotty is it going to make the wiki just like broden? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/broden

    • or perhaps the term 'binglee'. "geez, i just got bingleed by the service guy…"

  • Curious on an update both on the Note and the Tristan.

  • Wow. What a slap in the face to be told "high risk", and from an established store…

Still curious about an update on the Note and the Tristan.
