I was looking at purchasing a ps3 60gb to run ps2 games. I was offered one for about 120$.
What the changes it could go YLOD? or are there other alternative to run ps2 games?
Thanks

If you are look to play PS2 games exclusively, then get a second hand PS2.
If you still want to get a PS3, make sure you check the game compatibilities - as not all games work properly with PS3.
thanks guy. it was second hand from but i do get a 3 month warranty from the seller
I have my 60GB PS3, the fan is ridiculously loud on it even when it sits on the XMB. Personally I would just buy a cheap PS2 and use that.
I wouldn't pay $120 for a console that old, brand new 360's were like $80 a few months ago. Definitely go the ps2 route
You could mod a ps3 to run ps2 isos or even emulate them on pc
emulate them.
but won't the ps3 upscale to 1080p?
I've already have a 40gb console but i has 4.5 version of firmware, idon't think i really want to down grade it.
You can downgrade (hardware method is the only option I think) then upgrade back to 4.5 custom firmware.
do you still have the original PS2 discs?
I still think it's better to use PS2, play it with component av cable on HDTV.
also PS3 has a lot of remastered PS2 games and classic PS2 games if you don't have the discs.
i got most of them original, but some in NTSC format. figured the upscaling was the main attraction.
If it was Brand new that's a pretty good deal!
Otherwise I would avoid it and just buy a second hand PS2 (or brand new if you can find one)!
Don't buy the slims as I find they have a very poor laser. I'd recommend the FAT model such as the 390002.
