OPTUS forced to allow FREE Cancellation of Plans!

Optus has been forced by the ACCC to allow you to cancel any Optus PLANS you sign up, with $0 EARLY CANCELLATION FEE.

If you have signed up to a Optus Plan this year, or want to sign up to a Plan until 16 May 2014, you are allowed to CANCEL it with no costs:

So, all OPTUS Plans are now effectively month-to-month.

and whats the bet optus will also request handset supplied as part of a contract returned?

    • Absolutely.

      As is their right.

But at least you don't have to pay for 24 months!

      • and the other point is.. if you haven't signed up why would you now?

        • Because every Plan will month to month instead of 24 months!

  • Thanks. Moved to Forums now.

  • *if you signed up between the 26th of January and the 16th of May

  • What if you sign up now and want to cancel after 16th May 2014? How I read the paper it means you will be liable for costs.

  • Should mention its not for internet plans, only mobile.

  • So does this mean if I signed up and been using my iPhone 5s and cancel I get to keep my iPhone 5s? With no cancelation fee?

    • No, it means you are not tied to a contract you want. It doesn't mean you get a free phone.

  • Anyone dare to go sign up now and then cancel it with the intent on keeping the phone?

    • Hmm…just went onto to the Optus website…You will still need to pay for the handset…for a Galaxy S5, cheapest outright payment after u cancel is $26/mth x 24 mths = $624

      • The $100 plan has $7 phone payments….. hmm $168 for a Galaxy 5?

        • Read the fine print…The handset bonus will be voided if you cancel, so your $7/mth becomes $27/mth x 24 mths = $648…

        • or $552 for M8… $23 X 24Months.

        • Still a good price for an S5… lol

  • Optus plans are ok value if you must be on contract and paying out the handset at the full rate will stop most from going down that route. As it only applies to a VERY SMALL minority of users that have signed up on contract i say let it pass unless you don't have coverage or your paying for a handset that you can now get cheaper or free in which case give back the old one and port out and back if thats your choice…

    • Ummm…

The vast majority of Optus' users are Contract!

      Corporate and Domestic plans.

      Not prepaid!
