Hi guys,
I'd like to know your opinions on soundbar. I read recently of their growing popularity and people turning from 5.1 to 2.1.
What do you have?
Soundbar or 5.1? what's your take?

5.1 definitely sounds more natural and immersive
I agree, I think 5.1 is better than 2.1, specially if you can design your own system; choosing your amp, speakers, sub.
there's only been 19 votes so far but 31% have a soundbar.
Currently have a nice 2.1 setup for the lounge, but am looking for a centre speaker to make it 3.1.
Having had 5.1 setup for quite some time in my last house, I didn't see much value in the rear speakers, and would rather use those two channels for a second zone.
Largely agree with you here, but no matter the configuration, a tinny soundbar (which they all are) is still a poor substitute for real speakers.
Soundbars are a poor compromise to a proper amp and speakers.
If you have the choice, get the real deal. Proper amp (not a Home Theatre in a Box) and Full Size Speakers (ie larger than Bookshelf at a minimum ideally Floor-Standers if you have the space and the nod of approval from the lady in your life) not little PC Speakers with a boomy "Sub".
If you're renting so can't run speaker wire through walls and will be moving house fairly regularly, then the convenience of a soundbar might outweigh its audible disadvantage.
