Don't Buy Philips Headphones

Hi guys,I thought I should do a public service announcement.

I have had these headphones since christmas, but they sat at home until about two weeks ago not being used. I realised they'd be good for work and brought them in. anyway, after about 3 or 4 charges the usb port has snapped free? and now the headphones are useless. They are in immaculate condition otherwise, I have definitely not been rough with them at all.

The most disappointing thing is, these were a gift from my sister, who has been in hospital since new years after suffering from a brain tumour surgery gone wrong and a bunch of strokes. I can't bring myself to tell her the last gift she gave me is a piece of shit (sorry to go all sob story, but it would be nice to use something she had given me back when she could walk/talk/breathe on her own, etc)

these are the headphones - http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=SHB…

and here's a pic of the damage. http://instagram.com/p/md4Qg0ktHl/

I must state i didn't force the usb cord in at all. I try to be gentle with my electronics, I'm one of those people who can make an iPhone last 2 years without getting scratched/ cracked.

I don't usually complain about this stuff, but I'm so disgusted I just had to, and I see philips stuff posted on here a lot. In the grand scheme of things, this is nothing compared to what has been going on it my life, but it would be nice to still be able to enjoy things!!!

I have heaps of Philips products. All have been very good bang for the buck. This is obviously an exception to the rule. They make so many things some of them are bound to be absolute crap.

Have you taken them back for a refund/exchange as per your consumer guaranteed rights?

  • I have thrashed my $30 pair of philips earbuds over the last 2 years. Recently just went through the washing machine for the 2nd time.. still working strong!

I wouldnt tar all their products with the same brush - these things are indestructible!

The headphones are obviously important to you and I realise you shouldn't have to get them repaired, but considering the sentimental attachment I'd repair them if I were in your position.
Like asdubstep has mentioned, Philips generally produce good products. It's reasonable to suggest you've received a product with a manufacturing defect, in this case I'd persue an exchange as they suggested. I don't believe this warrants a post advocating people boycott buying Philips headphones based purely on your single bad experience. Sorry to hear about your situation, however there are other avenues to consider to get those headphones working for you.

    • yeah, fair enough. I generally like their stuff, too.

Its more of an emotional thing than a rational thing, I know. I've just never had something break so quickly without some user error.

  • To be honest, you should try and go through warranty, this doesn't mean that Philips is bad as I'm sure many people have had good products in the past, every company puts out duds once in a while and how they deal with it in warranty is what sets the good apart from the bad.
