How To Open Ports?
Comments
You may want to read up on Commodore Perry.
Standard 'opening of ports' to allow incoming connections is done via port forwarding where you specify a port on the router (incoming from the internet) and forward it to a local computer (and port, which can be a different port number if desired).
Port Triggering appears to be different in that it requires an outgoing connection (eg. from you local computer to an internet source) and that triggers an incoming connection.
Normally for opening up web servers etc. to the internet you want Port Forwarding. If you provide details of why you are wanting to 'open ports' then you can probably get more assistance.
Brezzo's advice is good. You could also go to http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc/hardware/ and find your router in the list. Click it and it'll bring up a whole page of useful info on your router. Towards the bottom is a section called "Configuration" which tells you how to access the config on your router. Below that is a section called "Support" where you will find the manual and so on.
You'll probably be looking at port forwarding, as port triggering is not used nearly as often. You'll probably need to make sure your computer has a specific, fixed IP address on your network, otherwise it'll work for now but run into trouble later when you are offline for a few days (eg you go on a holiday) and when you get back, you fire up your devices in a different order and the router gives them different addresses.
If you're doing it for a torrent program, make sure you have the port set to a static number in that program's config, as some torrent apps change the port number each time the program runs, unless you tell it specifically not to.
Don't forget that your firewall (eg Windows firewall) might also block traffic, so if you think you've got the settings right but you just can't get it to work, turn off your firewall for a bit to see if that fixes it. If it does, then you know you need to update a setting in there too.
Try and find the model number, and follow the steps on the page for that model:

If it's not there, try googling how to port forward XXXXX (being the model number).
