5% Discount on Virgin Gift Cards + $50 Velocity Credit with 2014/2015 Entertainment Books

150

I'm selling the books again this year.

The new Entertainment book has been released and this year includes Virgin. All entertainment book members can purchase Virgin gift cards with a discount of 5%. I contacted Virgin to confirm that if gift cards are used to purchase flights the $7.70 booking fee is NOT incurred.

And when members register their gold cards, Virgin send a $50 credit to their Velocity accounts.

This year, memberships are also available digitally on most smart phones and in a few weeks on tablets. If you have any questions about the digital membership, post them here and I'll try and get the answers for you.

If you don't know anyone selling the books, ask around schools, child cares or large charities.

Of course, I'm happy for anyone to purchase using this link as we're fund raising for our local high school.

Can the Virgin gift card and the 5% off be used for Virgin mobiles?

    • I think it is for flights/accomm only as it is through your velocity account.

  • I have a Windows phone. Can I still purchase the digital version?

    • Entertainment™ Digital Membership – allows you to redeem offers directly from your iPhone or Android smartphone

      • I've asked our account manager from Entertainment and will let you know if there's anything planned for Windows phones.

    • They told me today that it should be available for Windows phones in a couple of months.

I've been getting emails from Entertainment Book about their new digital version. Annoyingly they are light on information.

Do you know how the digital version will work when using the coupons? I have a feeling the restaurants will have no idea what to do.

  • similar question is all card discount and coupon discount on the digital version, ie. no difference in offer when compare book vs digital? I am talking about the Sydney+sydney north option.

    • The digital version will always be up to date with the new offers that come out during the year - otherwise they contain the same vouchers and discounts.

    • I'm yet to use mine, but on each offer there is a redeem button that you press in front of them.

  • What's going to be the deal this year on Coles/Woolies gift cards?

I love that when you get a Woolies gift card it's a Wish one that can be used across the stores without limit and with no dollar limits (for he 2013-14 book). However the Coles card not only is limited to Coles only but also had a $4000 limit.

I'd like to hear if you have been able to negotiate a higher limit and/or Coles myer cards instead as this is a significant difference.

    • +2

There doesn't seem to be a limit on the Wish card this year.

Coles are no longer in the book.

      • +2

Thanks for the quick answer, that seals it for me then. Aldi and Woolies are my new shops of choice over Coles.

        • Happy to help.

        • What is the deal on Woolies gift cards please? I tried to see on the Entertainment book web site but could not locate it.

        • +1

5% discount on pre-purchased cards. You can get the Wish cards which seem to cover everything or you can order the BigW or BWS ones.

  • I was interested in the digital edition but then I won't be able to trade with other members like we can with the paper version, so i'm most likely going to stick with the paper version although digital seems very convenient.

It mentions that with digital you can "Share your Membership with your immediate family".

Would be interested to know how this can be done.

i got the digital membership and when you login it asks to name your device. i think u can install on a number of devices and you can see the name of the devices it has been installed on with your login on the app.

if you share with family i guess they would install and you login on their device. if a once off sharing you would probably need to get them to delete app / logout (or maybe change your password) if you worry they use up your other vouchers lol. if you don't mind them using other vouchers then would just leave as is.

Edit: 4 phones as per other person comment

With the digital version, it is all stored on your phone. When you want to use a coupon, tap on the offer and a redeem button will come up - show this to the merchant. They should press it and then a confirmation button comes up for you to press.

With the sharing, up to four phones in the family can have the membership loaded - but only one can be 'open' at a time. So if you go to use it and one of your kids has it open, you bump them off and sign in on your own device.

At the moment it is iphone and android (higher than 4.1.2) but should be tablets in a few weeks.

The digital also has a feature called 'near me' which finds all merchants in your geographical location which would be great when travelling.

The digital also has a feature called 'near me' which finds all merchants in your geographical location

They've had that feature for years now using the free companion app…

    • Just wondering the same thing as alwayscheaper. Are exactly the same deals in the digital version as there are in the book?

      • +1

Exactly the same deals in each, but the digital one will get all of the new offers that are released during the year automatically - as opposed to the monthly emails listing the new offers.

    • MY Samsung Galaxy S2 only goes up to 4.1.2 at the moment. I have already preordered a digital membership, are you telling me i wont be able to use it?

This was never told to me prior to this.

      • 4.1.2 is what you need - it should be fine.

      • Ok just checked, it will work with 4.1.2 and above…Not higher than 4.1.2

  • How do you purchase the digital version? There's stuff all info on their website about it.

  • You can purchase it using my link at the top if you don't know anyone selling it. They only sell through fundraising groups - we're fundraising for our high school.

    • I noticed it asks your region, never done the entertainment book thing, but if I get the digital version, will it still have vouchers for say, SE QLD, as I travel there regularly, and wouldn't want to buy 2 digital books. Thanks.

      • It is like the hard copy memberships in that regard - you need to choose which 'book' you want.

Which part of SEQ, too? There's a Gold Coast/Northern NSW book and the Brisbane/Sunshine Coast one.

        What is your general location?

  • I am Western Sydney(Blacktown) and visit family in Ipswich/Logan/Brisbane area in QLD. So the deals are specific to the region? Thanks.

    • +1

They are, StrickenAza34 - but once you have one membership, you can purchase other ones at a cheaper price. There are two in Sydney - Greater West and Sydney&Sydney North.

You can also 'flick through' the book on the Entertainment Book website to get an idea of what is in there.

      • Thanks for fielding my questions!

        • Any time.

  • Hi, if I buy a digital membership today when will I be able to start using the vouchers?

    • Straight away, malexane! Just as soon as it loads onto your phone.

  • Anyone know how the $50 Virgin credit works?

    • It seems to be put with a Velocity membership.

  • Hi Store Rep,

curious, how to know $50 from Virgin for velocity members will receive?

    • When I registered my gold card, I linked it to my velocity account. If you don't have one, you sign up for it at that point.

The credit goes in a couple of weeks later.

      • yes i also did the same, log in to my velocity, but after? I guess after log in, and that's it? Anywhere in the entertainmentbook.com will mention it's linked?

        • I'll confirm with Entertainment and let you know.

    • I just got my email from Virgin:

Thank you for requesting a $50 Virgin Australia Holidays* voucher, courtesy of Entertainment™ Book and Velocity.

      Your code is xxxxx

To redeem this offer, simply visit virginaustralia.com/holidays, select your preferred holiday package and quote your code on the payment page by 30 June 2015.

There's no minimum spend on an exciting range of holiday packages, so whether you're planning a big adventure or just a quick weekend away, you’ll be able to use your voucher.

You will also earn Velocity Points for every dollar you spend with Virgin Australia Holidays

OK, I've purchased a digital copy via CC, provided details, but haven't received any confirmation via email or SMS; this was last night…what happens now please?

    • Did you purchase that through my link? I'm checking on another one at the moment - please pm me more detail and I'll follow it up for you.

  • Hi rep, waiting, like mooreshady, waiting for your answer about the linking of the Entertainment Book with the Virgin voucher.

Also, is Virgin voucher providing $50 worth of velocity points? If so, these points could, for example, contribute towards buying a Coles Myer Gift Card. Or can it be only used on Virgin products or services?

Would be interested in buying the paper version online, do you get a range of pickup options? For example, I know that it sells at my local school so would I just pick up from there?

    Much thanks in advance.

  • Hi Povertytrap,

I'm still waiting on the virgin answer - from what I understand, it is a $50 credit onto your velocity account to spend on travel.

With regards to picking up - you'll need to contact the local school to make sure they're selling it this year and what arrangements they'd like you to make for picking up. Provided they are using the payment page system like we are, you'd still be able to pay online.

  • I tried using the digital coupons at Chatime QV and Breadtop QV, and they rejected them! They told me that they only accept the book coupons. Anyone has any issue with this? I emailed entertainment book to change to a book version.

    • At the launch, we were told that they'd visited the merchants and explained how it works to them. Are these business in Sydney - I am guessing Queen Victoria building?

  • The $50 is not a Virgin Velocity credit. It is a 'Virgin Australia Holidays' gift voucher. It appears to me that maybe it cannot be used for a flight alone, but can only be used on a Holiday package. If that is the case, then it is very disappointing. It was the one thing that swayed me to buy the entertainment book.
To quote the T & C's:- "Voucher can be used for any published Virgin Australia Holidays package".
In any case, it is not a '$50 Velocity Credit', and so the deal title needs amending (belatedly)

    • I'll look into this and let you know, Peck.

    • 'Virgin Australia Holidays' $50 voucher code was emailed to me. I tried it, but it does not work for 'flight only' purchases.

      • I got mine too - only works when you choose a "Holiday" so flight+hotel bookings only. Seems to be a generic code.

  • P.S. Your voucher will be emailed to the address specified in your Velocity Account within 14 days

    • I got mine seven days after registering my gold card.

Any Emirates fans out there planning on going to UK / Europe? You had better be quick! Further info on using VA Gift Vouchers. Vouchers are received instantly electronically upon payment.
Vouchers are sold under this 5% off deal, in multiples of $50's up to $500, and then $100's eg. 50, 100, 150, etc $500, 600, 700. You cannot input an exact fare through this deal. However, direct through Virgin, you can(but no 5% off) Eg $169.45.
HERE IS THE STINGER! Only one gift voucher can be used per booking. The balance of the booking must be paid via a valid credit card attracting a booking and service fee. ($7.70 min). Sure your gift voucher can exceed the booking value, but when you use the balance on your next booking, you will also have to use a credit card if it is not enough!!
If I am right, then it is not worth all of the hassle. I will book with Tiger or Jetstar, who are both cheaper, or Poli-pay for Virgin if desperate.

  • I've bought the Melbourne digital edition, but have found the Pancake Parlour voucher missing from my Android app. Have emailed Entertainment Book on Monday and still waiting for a response.
