Best Internet data for China 3G?

Hi guys,

When I don't have wifi, what is the cheapest way to get data, getting a number is also a bonus. Have iPhone 5, going to china.

Last time I was in Shanghai (Nov 2013), China Unicom had a 12GB (10GB in Shanghai, 2GB roaming) 3G data plan with 3 months expiry for 300 RMB (~$50 AUD). You won't get a number though.

Not sure if it's still available, or if it's available anywhere outside Shanghai.

  +1 for China Unicom for prepaid sim card with 3G data and phone number. Learn how to cut your own sim if you can't find a nano sim.

  Can u remember how u got this? Seems really cheap. 3GS offers 70 aud for 3gb over 3 months, more price, less data… Would prefer your plan

    I got it from a physical China Unicom store in China.
    
    You might be able to find some info about it on their Chinese website: http://www.10010.com/ Their English website is useless.
    
    To get a SIM card you'll need a Chinese ID card, but you can always ask the salesperson to use their ID card to sign up for you if you don't have one. Bring your passport to prove you're a legitimate foreigner lol.

When I was living there I was surprised to find that you also paid for phone call when someone phoned you. Unexpected surprise. Check if that system still applies. JoyV
