Another reason for me to be a cranky old man. Youth is wasted on the young yada yada yada. Flights to the US are wasted on the young yada yada yada.

Went into Woolies the other day with all my past receipts where they rounded up. Asked for a refund…

  • Normal price to get to LA, great price for NY tho

I certainly do not begrudge students or any other group getting a deal, but I do not understand the logic of restricting sales to a certain group. Is it just so that 'Student Flights' are congruous with their name? They are making a profit on sales no matter who they sell to, and I assume that profit is the name of the game. Can someone 'please explain'?

because they are trying to appealing to a specific market. Like contiki

I assume students are less likely to spend money on flights, thus them hoping students who are unsure on travelling will take the plunge. While someone 27+ wanting to travel is more willing to spend the money on flights even if they are $1600+.

Of course there are always exceptions, but this is how I see it.

      • This is how it works. They want customers that would otherwise not be buying flights. If they give this discount to everyone, all the people that would normally pay $1600+ would be paying less and in the end they might just be better off not doing a sale at all.

        • I see what Peck is saying though. If I fronted up with $1200 and said I wanted to book a ticket, would they genuinely turn me away because I'm over 26, and just miss out on the sale?
