Best male razor deal

Currently using mach 3 but have used mach 5 in the past
Yes I do the drying and hairy forearm rubbing to prolong life (I get 10 or more shaves out of a Mach 3 blade
Looking for cheap blades but also toying with other options
e.g. considering http://au.dollarshaveclub.com/
I would also consider a straight razor if someone wanted to convince me and suggested a starting point
Go at it friends :)

DE wer shaving is the way to go!
      http://www.artofmanliness.com/2008/01/04/how-to-shave-like-y…

I picked up a few DE razors a while back from some 2nd hand stores (Salvos, etc.) disinfected them and restored them back to life and they work a heck of a lot better than my old Mach 3 and considerably cheaper too!

You have to spend a bit of money initially but in the long run the blades are as cheap as and a much closer shave too (meaning less frequent shaves).

Checkout Badger & Blade for some links to Aussie vendors and use the discounts.

I've personally only used Kinetic Blue but found their service quite good.

It turns into a bit of a ritual after a while. The lather, the shave, the aftershave.

  • genuinely? You sure about that,

    I knew this felt familiar

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/117064

Uses ACA and TT to promote their product, at the same time slams both after they test the products

That thread has some good alternatives suggestions there

    • Thanks for the link
Wow - there was a lot of anger on that thread - LOL
Seems TV reviews were negative but not many OzB have actually tried them
The rep was actually responding to criticism which is good
      Hmmm

      • The feel of it and investigation, makes the rep and the company look dodgy.

100% Aussie, really? Surprised another rep didn't come in named "Mick", or "shaza"

As one of the post noted, accounts have been banned for sockpuppeting.

  • I bought some razors from clarks crazy bargains in Albury about 5 years ago. 10 or 15 pack for $3 - Dorco brand. best inexpensive razors I've ever used. actually as good as, if not better than, the brand names I've used.

    They last for ages.

so my suggestion - try some inexpensive "reject shop" razors and see if one of them is suitable. the initial investment in trying them is relatively low and if you find a good razor then buy in bulk.

I did this a few years ago and have never looked back.

Go out and invest a little money on a good quality double edge (DE) shaving gear. I use a Merkur 34c and it's fantastic: http://www.mensbiz.com.au/merkur-heavy-duty-hd-double-edge-r…

You can get them much cheaper if you want to shop overseas but Mensbiz is a pretty good shop.

Get yourself a decent brush and some gear and your on your way. Blades work out to be about 25c each in bulk (100 packs)

It takes some time to unlearn all the bad habits of shaving with disposals but when you get the hang of it it's by far the best shave you can get. Very low running cost once your set up.

Shaving for me went from a chore to something I actually enjoy doing now, it sounds weird but its oddly satisfying getting such a good shave with a single blade and good quality products. Getting rid of canned shaving cream and replacing it with the proper stuff adds to the experience.

There is plenty of info on Google about how to do it.

Message me if you need any more info :)

  • I get remarkable life out of my Shick Hydro, it outlasts any other blades I've tried by miles (duracell bunny of blades?).

I have been wondering about products like Razorsharp Razor Blade Sharpener/ Cleaner to extend the life of blades? Interested also in the review from Amazon that states "Its ok, but nothing that a leather belt couldn't do. (The old fashion way)".

Anyone take cleaning further than a running under the tap or shaking out in the basin?

I havnt tried the hairy forearm or leather belt… yet
