CyberLink PowerDVD 13 Family 40% off - Ultra $64.95 until April 7

31

PowerDVD 13 Ultra is the latest version of PowerDVD. Can play blu-rays, dvds and digital video files. Also supports 3D and 4K. It's usually $135.93.
You can buy it as a digital download or buy it as a physical box (which would require shipping). Also gives you the option to buy a physical remote ($4.99) or I think there's a free app for iOS and Android.

The other products in PowerDVD 13 include PowerDVD Pro which doesn't support 3D but still plays blu-rays (50% off $54.95. PowerDVD Deluxe just plays dvds.

There's a free 30 day trial if you're unsure about purchasing it.

Came to my attention when my version of PowerDVD 10 stopped working properly and I was considering purchasing a new player for my computer. Luckily I saw it now!

I use Power DVD on my HTPC for blu-rays and DVDs - excellent software

So version 10 stopped working for no reason and you thought "i'll just buy a new piece of software from the same company" ?
    Interesting…

Cyberlink PowerDVD player OEM version is generally bundled with optical drives available at your local MSY or Centrecom stores. At this price you may want to buy a bluray drive that comes with OEM version.

im not poaying 65 dollars and certinly not in a million years pay 135 for it.

terrible software i delete this shit when i comes on new computer.

    • I thought that too, however, I had a PC with XP, was using it as a media centre, couldn't get hardware (graphics) decoding on any other application…CPU would still at 100% for bluerays and still jerk…
powerDVD, cpu down to 4-5% and crystal clear, no shuttering, XP, easy to set up.

I was tempted to grab a copy - but didn't actually play enough DVDs to make it worthwhile… Now I just use Plex. Plex you are awesome. - transcoding ftw.

For $65 you can (almost) buy a name-brand physical Bluray player that will do all of the above.

What does this software do that VLC doesn't do for free ?

    • +1

      hardware decoding in XP.

  • I agree this software is overpriced but that and TMT appear to be the only way to play 3D blu-ray on PC through HDMI to 3D displays/TVs.

    • What about MPCHD?

      • +1

I think you mean MPC-HC. As it says in this deal thread, there are many free software player options to meet the majority of use cases. However, I am particularly interested in 3D playback. AFAIK such non-free software players appear to be necessary to play full resolution frame-packing 3D (as opposed to side-by-side which requires no special player but halves the resolution and requires display support).

Employing a PC with additional free software enables playback using a disc image (as long as it is decrypted) without the actual blu-ray disc.

        • Yeh the choices are pretty much powerdvd or total media theatre, frustrated the crap outta me when i got a 3d display and figured my players should just work, but no free player would play 3d bluray since no free software has been licensed with the 3d codec yet.
I went with TMT, the interface looked a lot nicer to me.

        • Yep, I have been using PowerDVD 10 bundled with a blu-ray drive and the main problem I have now is that it is not Windows 8 compatible so I am faced with waiting for a deal (thanks OP) on a new version because the regular price is a exorbitant IMO. I have not tried/used Total Media Theatre but it seems version 6 is currently available at "60% off" for A$48.22 so I might give the free trial a go.
