15 Amp Extension Cord (not 10 Amp)

I have a water heater installed but the power cord is not long enough to reach the 15A socket. I will need to extend the power cord by 1.5 metres. I went to Bunnings but the shortest 15A extension cord is 10 metres. Does anyone know where I can buy a shorter 15A extension cord? 2 metres will be perfect but I don't mind to have a 5 metres one. 10 metres is too long but I am afraid that may be my only choice.

If I couldn't find a shorter 15A extension cord, I will consider making one myself. Is there any regulation that it is illegal to make one myself?

Thanks in advance for any advice and comments.

try a decent electrical store like lawrence & hanson or John R Turks

I'm sure it is illegal… But it's probably the only way to get it done (and it'll be safer than coiling up that much 15 amp lead on the ground).

The thing that you would need to be careful about is if the heater is installed outside, because there may be extra consideration in using an extension of any sort, such as ingress protection, etc.

Proper cabling and fitment is very advisable.

In most cases, the heaters stock cable can be replaced with one of the correct length

If a fire is caused by faulty home brew cabling, your insurance company will walk away from the claim.

They have some very smart investigators who can work out exactly what caused the fire.
