With the end of daylight savings I'm looking for a bicycle light so that I can ride at night. I only ride on roads and bicycle paths that are reasonably lit and I won't be dong any trail riding. Having said that, ideally I would like a light that is visible during the day as well.
So far I am leaning towards the solarstorm x2 (about $35 on ebay including battery back). My only reservation is the battery pack - uses cheap 18650 batteries which sound quite dangerous. That has led me to look at getting a battery box (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Solarstorm-portable-water-pro…) and buying some sanyo or panasonic 18650s instead then using a universal battery charger (such as the nitecore i4). This setup will cost about $90 including the battery charger, but I need the charger anyway for some eneloops I've just bought!
Before I buy it, I'm just wondering if anyone else has some suggestions I should consider.
Thank you!
I use the front and rear magicshine lights I picked up from http://www.dx.com/s/magicshine
With an extra cable I can run them off the one battery that I place under the seat.
Easily get 4 hours use out of them. If anything they are too bright at 900 luminems, but aslong as they are angled down they dont seem to upset anyone.
This looks pretty good for $50, and not insanley bright like the others (but I wanted bright cause my commute takes in 6km of firetrail to avoid major roads) - http://www.dx.com/p/magicshine-mj-890-ssc-z5p-160lm-3-mode-w…
