Sim card receive calls only (long expiry)

Hi,

I've got a new job which requires me to have a mobile.

This Sim will be to receive calls only.

I don't want to use my personal number as I want to keep my work/social lives seperate.

I have a spare phone.

What is the cheapest way to do this? I know Vodafone do 365 expiry but I think it costs $20. Amaysim is 90days..can I just recharge $1 every 90days?

Thanks

  • Telstra offers a long life prepaid plan too.

Otherwise, most SIMs and their numbers don't expire unless you don't recharge within 6 months. (ie: for telstra, just recharge five dollars every six months).

Start kit $5 with $5 credit and valid for 1 year,
but recharge will be $15 after that

      • Yep, go the ALDI $5 starter. Then after 1 year port to Telstra $30 Starter for $10 and put on Long Life. Rinse and repeat.

        • That will be $20 per year with Telstra while it only cost $15 per year if you stay with Aldi.

Savvytel credits don't expire, so no need to recharge every six months or yearly like the Telstra and Aldi deals.
Don't forget to claim the cost on your tax.

    Savvytel

    • Does this actually work.. they all seems to be out of stock after you hit the second Buy now button..

    • Good advice about claiming the expense as it is work related. One would have expected an employer to provide the sim card and/or phone too; indeed most seem to, and would be claimed by them as a legitimate business expense.

  • Vodafone pre-paid sim card $2 minimal credit (Approx $10) to start) account will not expire if topped up in twelve months. Easier to use a double sim card phone. Saw a cheap Samsung mobile (Note or Pocket?) for about $100 at Allphones that would take 2 sim cards. I am fairly certain these were unlocked mobiles too, but only 2 or 5mp cameras.

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Mini2 for my son (locked to Vodafone but only $25 unlocking online) there for only $100 (pre paid bundle) that came with sim card which included $29 value flexi cap recharge to use in 28 days. Only negatives is only 5mp camera and single sim though. Neat little Galaxy Mini smartphone that he is very pleased with, good clarity on speakerphone too. Will use up the $29 credit then swap back to his regular pre-paid international plan (monthly top up of $10 or $20) with his usual Vodafone sim card.

  • Savytel for sure .I put $50 on it 2years ago still going.I think Optus took them over but still good

  • Any update on this please?

I came here looking for a similar phone plan just to keep my sim alive too. I looked up Savytel mentioned above, sadly, they are closed. The next best thing I found is Amaysim's $10/365 days.

Please update if anyone found anything cheaper than $10/yr.

  • How about $1 plan from TPG?
