Olympus 45mm f1.8 camera lens - eGlobal a Liar!!

Moved to Forum: Original Link

I purchased an Olympus camera lens from eGlobal last week. Prior to making my order on their website, I asked them where their stock of this particular lens was made from as I particularly wanted to buy one that was made in Japan. sure enough the very prompt answer I received back confirmed that it was made in Japan. So when I placed the order I also put in the remark to alert their despatch team to advise me if the actual stock turned out to be from a country other than Japan. I received my order just two days after I ordered it, but to my total disappointment the lens was made in Vietnam!!! I went straight to their website and lodged a request for an exchange or refund, but other than an email advising that they did source their stock worldwide, and that I could receive one from anywhere in the world. I followed up another message to them questioning why I was told about Japan and why my order remark was ignored, and I have not heard from them again!!! This is extremely bad customer service and I DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY ANYMORE!

  • ……but was it a bargain?

  • It sill has the same warranty !

I kwow Japanese manufactured goods used to/still have a generally supposed higher manufacturing standard, but do you have reason to believe that the made in Vietnam stock is inferior and/or not fit for the purpose ?

  • -1

You don't expect that kind of service from eshop offering bargain price. Its like flying on economy and asking for option to eat first class food. If you want something that specific, you have to go to local shop. Swallow it up I'd say, at least they didn't send you a fake product.

  • That's the price you pay for buying from an os retailer..
You have the email from them saying it was Japanese make lens so stick it to them.
Go to their facebook page and see if you can sort it out there.

  • They're a sister company of DWI …… long story short, if you end up returning it, be sure to use a shipping method with tracking AND a signature, and don't expect them to be forthcoming with a refund any time soon.

    • Chargeback?

      • Yep! The reason for mentioning that your shipping method should have both tracking AND a signature is because Paypal will require it.

  • I don't believe these lenses were ever made in Japan, anyway - mine is an early model and was made in China. The Olympus E-PL3 camera that I bought it for was made in Vietnam and the quality is flawless.
