Cheapest I have seen since the Dick Smith deal finished ($159). If you get it delivered the saving pretty much just gives you free shipping, but if you click and collect you can save $10 of item cost. I'm waiting for it to hit sub 150 but this might be useful for someone else.

  • You can buy this directly from Amazon for $139 + $11.98 delivery = $150.98 USD or around $164 AUD

but $8 save you much more hassles than you will expect if the kindle turns crazy ;), I would go to BigW, worries free

      • Not really… Amazon have excellent support. A friend's kindle had a solid line appear on the screen that was visible only in dark background - they replaced it and didn't even ask for the original back

        • Are you serious? I got a giant canned reply "turn it off and on again" when I explained to them that my Kindle 3G's screen was broken. And then, just silence.

    • works out as $169.71 from amazon using their currency converter and you have to wait 8-16 days for delivery…. or pay $1.71 less and pick it up in store… i know which i'd rather

  • I missed the original DSE offer when they were first released ($128 I think I bought the wife's for?)

Then I missed the Big-W $149 around Christmas time (got in 24 hours late!)

Luckily I got to DSE a fortnight ago and paid the $159.

As someone who was reading Kindle on my iPhone for the past three years, this thing is (to me) worth the $149 at a stretch. It's beautiful to read on and the range from Amazon is incredible. Add in the deals you can get for cheap books, and Instapaper pushing articles for me, there's no end to content.

However, flying overseas in May the iPhone just wasn't going to last, so I paid the $159 happily. I still don't feel I would have paid the $169, let alone the RRP $179.

    • i've tried the kindle android app on a larger galaxy s4 screen but i just can't see how anyone could read an entire book on it. i want to get back into reading books so a kindle would be perfect… or buying an actual book.. but where's the fun in that

      • +1

I must be backwards but I find an actual paperback much more enjoyable than a screen (albeit a brilliant e-ink one.)

I do admit the Kindle allows awesome portability and the ability to have a "library in your pocket", but there's no… feel?

        • maybe i just think the novelty factor of it will get me reading again ha. i love playing with new gadgets.

        • -3

I doubt anyone prefers an e-device to an actual book, but there are reasons to get an e-device, just not the locked sandbox of the Kindle.

        • Some of us enjoy reading, but can't afford 'feel'.

        • I wonder what the neg was for.

        • For the dumb generalisation.

  • I just bought it yesterday from:

    http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/amazon-all-new-kindl…

It may not be the 2nd generation, but after $5 discount it's about $145 include shipping and it has 4GB storage compare to 2GB. For a eReader I feel like there isn't much difference between 1st gen and 2nd gen, or maybe I'm wrong?

    • That is the 2nd generation. It is the Japanese model (4GB).
