Recently, I've been considering buying bike parts from Aliexpress, but I wanted to know if anyone has had any good/bad experiences with them. I've read around and heard that many of the merchants on the website are scammers, and I wanted to know if this was true.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
i have just started buying bulk lots for resale from there have about 10 orders in process a few have been shipped others still being processed i checked all sellers ratings before buying also opened up a ing account just for these purchases so if i get scammed nothing to lose will let you know how i go.
I've done 75 transactions on aliexpress. they have pretty much been all good. except with elcheapo microsd memory cards or usb sticks that seem too cheap. - they are fake. but the dispute process got me a total refund. I supplied screen dumps of H2test set on a background of the product page (yeah that could be photoshopped -but it works).
I did buy some summer jeans that are 3 sizes too big and really light weight. I somewhat read the description incorrectly with that. my bad.
The aliexpress escrow service is good as aliexpress doesn't release the funds until you receive the goods and the goods are as described.
Made a few purchases over the time and so far all have been excellent. The free shipping can take 3 weeks or so but if you are not in a hurry and are making a saving whats the rush.
Like everywhere there is shonky dealers… take a bit of time to check them out before ordering.
AE holds payment until they receive an all ok from the buyer. From reports they seem to sort out problems well.
I did have one item arrive damaged and the seller sent another one immediately after I contacted him.
IMO… AE are a threat to ebay and are better.
Bought some clothing, really good prices however they weren't delivered by the sellers. Money was refunded in a few days. Prices are better than ebay, although shipping might be longer in most cases.

so far it has all been good. you're just as likely toget scammed on ebay or gumtree.
I have to say I trust aliexpress. I went out on a limb in buying some tablets that were an excellent price (almost 2 excellent) and aliexpress -after the seller started stating that the items had been posted (they always provide tracking numbers) cancelled the all tranactions with the seller as the tacking numbers were bogus.
main tips-
-don't buy elcheapo microsd memory cards or usb sticks that seem too cheap. - they are fake.
-buy from reputable/good feedack sellers (who have good feedback for the item or similar items to what you are looking at.
-research the item for sale using different search terms, with free shiping, maximum quantities, etc.
-checkout the daily supersales as sometimes they have some pretty decent and inexpensive stuff.

how does the system work, you buy with credit card, then the order gets shipped, and what happens if it does not arrive? or it is damaged? what is their protection against problems, if any?
still wonder if anyone has had experience with refunds due to no arrivals of out of stock?
It is a minefield for sure.
Not only with scammers but quality as well.
I had one bad experience with the dispute process because of a non arrival
i have recieved 15 orders with no issues.
I've bought a few electronic bits and pieces from aliexpress. They sell almost the same stuff as you'd find on ebay (posted from China) So the quality can vary in the same way. The sellers english is pretty worrisome but everyone I've dealt with on there has delivered and sorted problems fairly quickly and efficiently.
edit: note that you'll be paying with credit card rather than paypal so you may have chargeback as an option. I would definitely not use direct transfer methods.
