Finally time to dust off the 3DS, bought it for Phoenix Wright vs Layton and it's finally here

    • Forgive my ignorance, is this a detective vs detective game?

      • It's a Defense Lawyer vs University Archaeologist Professor game

      • Puzzles vs Court room antics :)

        • Phoneix wright is also a detective, he doesnt do just what a lawyer does, he goes to crime scenes and looks for clues.

        • I like the courtroom fights more. Edgeworth Investigations was pretty fun when it came to finding clues though!

        • In my own opinion, the story of Edgeworth came together more satisfyingly at the end than recent entires into the Ace Attorney franchise. The characters were even more likable than they usually are, and the actual moving around was cool. Although Apollo's final act was like OOOHHHHHH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOD.

I mean, I liked Dual Destines, but (HUGE SPOILERRRRRRS) the fact that someone who was 'Nobody' was the big bad guy all along just didn't resonate with me. But the 3D models were great and everyone just looked so good all the time.

Hang out for Edgeworth Investigations 2. With the porting of Phoenix and Layton, Monster Hunter 4 soon, and etc, we may see it sometime soon. Maybe. I hope.

        • Woohoo! Miles Edgeworth is my favourite PW character =) More miles for Miles, please.

Picking up my Layton vs. PW tonight. Click and Collect said I can pick it up today, even though it's released date tomorrow!

  • Don't buy Yoshi's Island without checking the reviews first.

    • I'm disappointed by Yoshi… I wasn't expecting anything revolutionary past Yoshi's Island, just something as good…

However not only is the game so easy that my 4yo could master it, the sound effects sound like somebody farted in a can and the music is less engaging that Chuggington's opening credits.

      • Thanks for the heads up, decided to opt for the phoenix and layton crossover game.

I keep checking out videos of Phoenix Wright and it just looks so dull and boring, but so many people love it… I am wondering what I'm missing here. Can anyone elaborate why it's such a good game? I'm looking at picking up some new 3ds titles and this one just keeps popping up!

    • It's a mystery/detective genre, it weights more heavily in the area of story than gameplay (although there still is some). You may not like this kind of genre, so it may not be for you.

Not that hard to understand, I look at league of legends and want to vomit, it's just personal preference.

      • Not to mention the soundtrack is mmf, so good. Just getting to hear that turnabout music gets me excited.

    • It's for those that love visual novels or heavy story-telling in their games. Like "To The Moon" for PC (which I loved). If you like VN games you definitely need to play 999 and Virtue's Last Reward.

    • It's basically an episode of CSI or NCIS except Japanese with wacky characters! To say that 'watching a video of a visual novel' is boring is like saying "I didn't like the jpg screenshot of the new action game because it didn't move"

Watch the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney movie on youtube. It's actually extremely well directed and excessively true to the franchise. It's almost fact-for-fact an exact replica of 2 of the cases from the very first game, and you can get a good feel for what the franchise is like. But, then again, it's a movie intended for people who are already fans (Like the gigantic screen that shows evidence to the court to explain why it just sort of… comes up, on the games.)

There isn't really any 'gameplay', but not every game needs to be about shooting aliens as a spaec mareen.

      • righto thanks everyone!

I enjoyed quite a few point and click adventures (monkey island etc) but might end up giving this one a miss.

        • I think they have a demo version if you want to try it out. I know they have demo of Phoenix Wright DD

        • Which, thankfully, is not as disappointing as the final case.

is still super sore about that conclusion despite being a rampaging Phoenix fan
