Starts 25/3/2014 @ GMT -7 time, which is tomorrow

Claims that 70 million products will be on sale at 50% off for one day

I've looked up some products I've previously bought at good prices, and most seem to be offering 15% on the day, or are already giving the discount - so there are some good deals if you know what you're looking for

Some products have also been marked up for the sale, so make sure you know your prices

  • 70 million products.. will this cover just about everything, or is it just selected items that AE picked out? 70 million seems like a lot of things to pick out..

  • Seems to be everything, there is a button that lets you filter to show only the march 25th sale. It's usually 15% off

I have a problem trusting sellers on AE. Unlike ebay where there are power sellers with hundreds of thousands of rating with 99.x% feedback, you'll find a lot of people with 5 feedback ratings and not all of them positive..

  • +2

OK, went through the entire list of sellers of the item I wanted. Those that had 15% off had higher base prices. It was actually cheaper to go with someone who's not participating in the one day sale. But as with all things sold from China, you're taking big risks, and you don't know if the thing you're buying is a fake or not.

  • Did prices go up? A few things I had a eye on last year are $20-30 dearer. Even sellers offering the 15% aren't cheaper than last year.

  • +3

Ofcourse the products are fake. That's why they're so cheap.

  • +1

    So they still refuse PayPal?

    • Yes, have to pay with Credit Card.

  • +2

Its UPTO 50% off not 50% off (many items I looked at are just 15% off)

Starts 25/3/2014 @ GMT -7 time, which is tomorrow

IS TODAY 8PM for AEDT (NSW VIC TAS)

However you can browse items today and search under "on sale March 25" which you can save to your wish list if the prices are ok for purchase later on today.

    So they still refuse PayPal?

A simple click on the link will give you the answer

    • About 2 pages of items from my wishlist are all 'on special' today, most are 15% off.
Interestingly most are also now the exact same price as when I first added them to my watch list.

Their complaint resolution process is horribly one sided. I was offered a mere 30% refund for a poor-quality defective mobile cover and that too after over 2 months. No wonder why the seller was so rude and indifferent when I told him that I'd have to raise a complaint, unless he resolves the issue.

    • +2

Strange I had the opposite experience, an item did not arrive and I got a 100% refund no problem.

      • +2

fake micro sd cards. showed h2test screen dump. got full refund.

Just looked through all 70 Million products and am watching 500,000 of them. At 200 items per page, I have 2500 pages of watched items. ;)

Gave up on Aliexpress due to fakes and dodgy weird smelling items.

There is not even the beginning of a pretense about health and safety with poisonous chemicals, toxic dyes, heavy metals etc. Basically, anything goes. I still have a box with some Aliexpress plastic children toys that just reeks in the weirdest unhealthy-smelling chemoplastic way.

    • +4

I've had virtually no problems with clothing and cycling gear.
Sometimes it's just a matter of finding the right vendor, often the stuff is made in exactly the same factory as brand-name-items (sometimes the items are still shipped with those brand names on them).

      • +3

        Like the genuine Sennheiser earphones?
        The RayBans?
        The Oakleys
The anything with any brand that can make a dollar?
        Hint…they are fakes/

        • +1

If you're expecting the things to be 100% genuine then it's your expectations are unreasonable.
What I said was that in many cases the items are made in exactly the same factory and in many cases the items are of equal quality as 'genuine' items.

I've placed ~70 orders with AliExpress and only 2 or 3 of those have not met my expectations, each time the dispute process was resolved in my favor.

Depends on what you are buying, what your expectations are and how much care you take with the items and vendor.

What I said was that in many cases the items are made in exactly the same factory and in many cases the items are of equal quality as 'genuine' items.

Selling counterfeits are still illegal as far as I know. Who's fault it is is irrelevant. If it's made in the same factory and it can't be given the same seal of approval or whatever, it should be clearly labeled as such, or as factory seconds. They should not be putting the original logo on and passing them off as genuine.

It should be clear to the buyer what they are getting, without them trying to figure it out or take risks.

    • Weirdest unhealthy smelling chemoplastic way?

Have you been in a Kmart lately? Smells just like that.

My experience with AE: I bought a video cable for a laptop and it was deliver reasonably quick but it didn't work as expected. I contacted the seller who insisted that I buy another one and once I receive that they will refund me the first one, I didn't want to do this as the seller could have claimed the item was sent when it was not.

I lodged a dispute and it took 3 to 4 weeks and it was resolved in my favor and got my refund and bought the cable from another seller and it turned out to be ok.

My sister has bought a few items from there and they have all have been received.

Ive only had good experiences so far but ive only bought from vendors with sufficient feedback. Was sent the wrong sized clothes once and got a full refund.

As for the people complaining of fakes… come on guys, obviously anything brand name on here is not genuine. A lot of the stuff comes from similar factories though, maybe even the same in some cases. Also, A lot of the stuff are 'clones'. Ie. they copy styles, stitching etc and list it under different brand names which is not a terrible thing if you want western sizing.

    Other notes:

When it comes to clothes avoid S, M, L, XL etc
Only shop with vendors with feedback

The problem is, there are bargains, there are fakes, and there are genuines. It's impossible to tell whether it's a fake without ordering.

If the price is too good to be true, it's generally going to be a fake or clone. If it's a little bit less than RRP, it's probably genuine. The difficulty is what happens when the price is somewhere in between? That's the price range I shop at. Is it a genuine bargain, or are you just paying more for a fake?

Descriptions and pics are unreliable. That's why I have no confidence using this site. If I want to pay prices that I'm sure are for genuine products, I can do so elsewhere.

  • How do you guys pay for aliexpress, there is no PayPal option?
What's the safe method that works?

    • 28degrees master card. I have never had a problem with buying stuff off aliexpress and paying this way.

      • darn i need one of those

only have a commonwealth debit card + paypal

  • +1

I dislike their dispute process. You must submit evidence there is an issue. Ali express has to confirm there is an issue and then gives 3 business days for the seller and buyer to come to a resolution or the default refund of 50% of original purchased is given. That doesn't include shipping.

    • default refund of 50% of original purchased is given

How long did this take? I have a dispute thats been escalated & stuck on processing for over a month now…

      • About a month. I'm wondering if a credit card charge back would be possible for you (and for me back then) that people seem to be talking about.

But really when the seller shows photos of a high and low quality item - high with green checks and low with red Xs, you'd think they'd send you the one with a green check mark and with no hole in it.
