Do you mean an extension like https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/send-link-by-email…?
None of those worked. There is a simple way, but I just can't find it. Kendrite, it puts a link on yr chrome toolbar to email a link whilst in an internet site.
This one? Found within a minute with a search.
http://www.chromeextensions.org/social-communications/sendli…
yeah, I actually searched for more than 1 minute, that didn't work either. It was a fairly simple thing to do before.
Maybe it isn't supported by the author anymore and isn't compatible with the latest version of Chrome so Chrome disabled it.
That link says : (but I want to just be in an internet page and press a button that I installed next to the webaddress and it send it to an Outlook email).
Makes Gmail your default email application and provides a button to compose a Gmail message to quickly share a link via email
This extension will open a Compose window in Gmail when you click any email address on a webpage. It also provides a button that will create a Gmail message when clicked, using the page title as the subject and selected page text and link address as the message. For setting the domain name of your "Google Apps for your domain" account, click Options
Can you look at one that you sent previously, or ask someone that received one, to examine the contents? It might give a clue to the name of the program that composed it.
Where ever possible I don't use Extensions but favour Bookmarklets
[Hongkiat Bookmarklets] (http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/100-useful-bookmarklets-for-bet…)
This page has a gmail bookmarklet
Block-quote Why Bookmarklet Are Cool?
They are efficient! We figured you might compare it with add-ons and browser plug-ins. Here are some advantages of bookmarklets over plug-ins we can quickly come out with:
Hassle-less installation – Installing a bookmarklet is simple. All you need to do is drag it up to the bookmark toolbar. To remove them, just right click on it and hit delete.
Light – If you’ve installed more than 15 add-ons in your Firefox, you’ll probably find it slower to start. Bookmarklets are just couple of lines of Javascript codes. You can have 50 and Firefox doesn’t even lag a bit.
No updates – Most plugins require update especially when there is a new version of the browser. Boomarklet on the other hand, are less likely to require an update.
Cross Browser compatibility – Bookmarklets are written with Javascripts, they work in most browsers.
endotherm, it was just a simple button that I got by doing a couple of clicks whilst in chrome. It would seem so far that win8.1 seems to have gotten rid of that option. I don't think it was an extension as such and I am wary of downloads on some of those links.
Anyone cracks this I'd veru pleased.
what email service do you use and do you use it via the web/browser (hotmail or gmail) or via desktop program (outlook, win mail, thunderbird)
When you clicked the button how did the page link open ready to email?
I use Outlook. Yes, when in a webpage - I use Chrome, I had a button that I had next to the web address. When clicking that button, the link popped up in an email ready to send.
Something like this? Click and it adds the shortened URL to clipboard, just paste it into an email.
Open Chrome.
Right-click the Bookmarks bar and select Add Page.
In the Name textbox, input: Send Link
In the URL textbox, input:
javascript:location.href='mailto:?SUBJECT='+document.title+'&BODY='+escape(location.href);
Make sure that the Bookmarks bar folder is selected and click OK or just drag this link to your Bookmarks bar
Yep this should do it
Well done Zerny
thanks Zerny, I followed all that. When I am in a page though I can't see the bookmarks bar and therefore not the send link either.
Control+Shift+b will hide or show the bookmarks bar in Chrome (and most browsers)
Or you can go into Chrome - options and change it that way
Ok good that helped. And, so now in a page and press send email, it comes up with having to log into the email I already have open. Then says that's already loaded, but does not go there.
I should have got Win7.
I had to unplug the box and return to the shop for a reset after some of those links mentioned here froze my microsoft account. the shop reset it. But one more problem and I'm going to try win7.
Make sure Windows has Outlooks set as your default mail handler (so the links open in Outlook)
Instructions here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Change-the-…
Then in Chrome go to menu (3 bars icon on menu top right) - choose settings
Scroll down and click Sho Advanced
In the pop-up box find the Handlers section and click manage
See if you have "mailto" under types and change it to "None"
Reboot
that combined with the setting Outlook as default should make the link Zerny gave you open in Outlook
Thanks, that link doesn't work for me. I am on Win 8.
How To Change Default MailTo Behavior in Windows 8
Step 1: Open Control Panel. You can do so easily by pressing the Windows+X, and select Control Panel from the menu that pops up.
Step 2: Click Programs, and choose “Make a file type always open in a specific program”
Step 3: In the next Window, find and highlight MailTo from the long list of extensions. You should be able to find it near the bottom of the list.
Step 4. Double click MailTo and pick Microsoft Outlook from the list.
That should be it. Make sure you do the above instructions from Noblejoker to check in Chrome that the Mailto Function isn't set to something other than Microsoft Outlook (although, it shouldn't be) and you should be done.
Also (as mentioned by Noblejoker) Control+Shift+b will hide or show the bookmarks bar in Chrome so you can use that Send Link button whenever you want to.
Hope that helps. Thanks for the assist Noblejoker!
Everything in the Win 8 menus can be found in the same way as Windows 7
That is push the windows key and start typing
So …
Push the windows button on your KB and start typing "default programs"
The option will come up under Search at the Top right - then follow instructions
Click Set your default programs.
Under Programs, click the e‑mail program you'd like to use, and then click Set this program as default.
Click OK.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I don't like win8.1 at all. I can't even load the bloody printer drives. I guess I'm gonna have to get a geek in for a 2 hour session, not that I've had to do that before, but I have other things to do other than stuff around w' this most of the day. Did I mention that I'd should have got win7.
Pardon?
