eBay - feedback policy what can you say

Just purchased shoes and the sale was with free standard postage (says so on the listing) but when I went to pay the seller had added a postage cost. Where do I stand as I still want the shoes, but not with and extra cost for postage. I have emailed the seller and they will not reply, I have contacted Ebay but the information is confusing. I would like to know what are my options. thanks

  • It should be based on the information provided at time of sale

  • Scroll down to description, does it say pick-up only? Personally I'd pay for it and talk to ebay about it, otherwise you mightn't get the shoes at all.

  • I am not sure what is fair feedback have spoken to ebay they are supporting what I say as the item was listed with free postage and then the seller added postage to the invoice. This is very unfair and the postage has ended up more than the cost of the shoes. So I would like to leave negative feedback but I have been told to be careful as seller can request to have it removed, I do not want to make it personal. Has anyone left negative feedback? What do you say?

    • +1

Just say something like "Listing included free postage. Seller added postage to the invoice"

    • Does the listing still say "free postage"? Check the "postage & payments" tab near the description and it will outline what the postage options are.

I know my father was selling a set of wheels on eBay and as he offered local pickup for free, it said "free postage" on his listing - however if the buyer wanted the item posted they would have to pay extra (and quite a bit for a big item like that).

There was no way for him to set it so it didn't say "free postage" because he offered local pickup it defaulted to that :(

Luckily the buyer was local and picked them up no problems.

      • Pick up is not postage though. Postage means it will be delivered. Pickup means you have to pick it up.

        • Yes, but if you offer free pickup and calculated postage (or postage to be worked out after it is purchased) it will simply say "free postage" on ebay.

        • That is correct, it is one of those annoying ebay system "quirks" (of which there are many). pick up comes up as free postage.

    • It is very difficult for a seller to get feed back removed. Feel free to leave what you think is appropriate.

If the seller isn't responding to your general questions regarding the shipping this is indicative of a bad seller who won't help you if there is a larger problem. A big red flag and you should just walk away from the sale. Sometimes it isn't worth the hassle…

  • IF the seller is trying to charge postage, when it does state free postage (of which really there is no such thing - should be postage included) and not pick up "free postage" then you can report the seller http://ocsnext.ebay.com.au/ocs/cusr?query=1482

I had one case where I bought something with "free" postage & seller added to the invoice. It took a bit for him to remove the extra cost, but he eventually did when I told him I'd be reporting.

I'm not all for running to ebay reporting at the drop of a hat (as I am a long term seller there) but there are genuine times when you need to.

  • Done, I left my feedback and cancelled the sale, not worth it if they are charging such high postage. I saw now when I checked the feedback rating it is only 50% so guess that shows it all.
