Is it worth trying to sell a broken tv?

My 4 1/2 year old 46" Samsung Series 6 LED tv has a stuffed panel which costs over $1000 to replace (got an independent quote and a Samsung quote - cost of the replacement panel is relative to the original cost of the tv). Otherwise there is nothing wrong with it. We decided to go with a new tv rather than repair this one.

Question is, given the low cost of tv's now is there a market for these busted tv's which can be fixed or should it go out in the council clean-up? Where should I advertise or who should I contact?

Thanks for your ideas…

ebay frequently has broken/faulty plasmas & LCDs.

list it at 99c and see what happens.
May even help someone who is looking for a replacement remote.

Make sure you calculate and include postage! There are people who buy broken stuff for spare parts.

      • I would make it local pickup/ even if it sells for $50, would you want to go to the trouble of packing it up and shipping it off?

My opinion is put it out for council clean up as the panel is going to costs over $1000 to replace for new owner. Save your self the time and energy.

Someone may be looking for internal cards or components. Worth putting on ebay for 99c. Even if you only get 99c you will be helping someone out.

    • Totally agree with ebay!

How does the broken TV behave?

Why not sell it. Make sure it is well described as faulty. Better to try and recycle it than to bin it.

I would attempt to sell it on eBay. As they say, one man's junk is another man's treasure ;-)

Now we know which way you swing.

      • Whaooo… Don't go there…

I wouldn't bother I'd give it away for free as they would be doing me a favour getting rid of it because now its just a lump of rubbish in your house.

Gumtree attracts timewaster trolls so advertise it on ebay with free pickup or postage at cost. Advertise on gumtree but just don't answer the trolls stupid questions like how much does it weigh? what are the measurements? Can you put candy inside it?

I have a 5 years 55 ins Samsung plasma TV , in good working condition. I tried to use it as trade in when I was interested in upgrading it to a smart samsung tv , costing over $2,000 . But no retailers were interested in using it as trade in.
Eventually I have to give it away free to a mate who has a need for his holiday house.
There is no secondary market for used TV even though it is in good working condition.

Just before you chuck it, I don't suppose you bought extended warranty and have forgotten you'd done so?

    • Checked all that - 18 months too late.
