Cheapest regular priced toilet paper

Looking for bargain toilet paper that's always available at a good price.

I'm not fussed about how soft / scented / printed / embossed my toilet paper is. The only thing I prefer is standard rolls - not individual sheets or those massive rolls.

I also don't mind single ply - it's not as though I can't double up the sheets myself.

Minimum price per sheet is the aim. Twin ply can be treated as 1.5 sheets. Buying bulk (like, say, 100 rolls) is fine. Sydney area.

Thanks.

  • quilton 3 ply @big w.
    $8 for $18 everydays price.

  • I'm not fussed about how soft

    how about too soft? :)

Twin ply can be treated as 1.5 sheets.

    why 1.5 not 2 if

I also don't mind single ply - it's not as though I can't double up the sheets myself.

    ?

Each ply in twin ply is usually thinner than single ply. I've found on average that three sheets of single ply are usually roughly equivalent to 2 sheets of twin ply. (Not that i'm rigorously scientific about it - just anecdotal observations).

  • The local newspaper?

    • It takes too long to cut it into little squares. Also, OP says not individual sheets ;)

  • Would you travel to Cabramatta for them? Lots of the Asian-run grocery stores sell huge bulk packs of toilet rolls for cheap, and they're the same stuff you get in the supermarkets only repackaged and without branding (like Quilton for example).

I have to ask someone I know for the approximate price (and how many rolls), but I'll reply back here once I find out. If you're keen, I'll get the address of one shop too. No idea what it is off the top of my head, but it's in the Cabramatta/Cooks Hill vicinity.

    • Thanks for that.

Yes, I'd make it a stop on my regular travels about town. I was actually thinking something along those lines - just that I dont know anywhere specific. Any lead would be great.

      • Ok, here's the address of the little supermarket (it's got a small parking lot in the front, so it might be a bit tricky to spot at first). Supersave Market. 77-79 Meadows Rd, Mount Pritchard

        Street view might help

It's basically an Asian-run mixed homewares shop. Nothing fancy but they have a range of toilet papers in bulk for cheap… and good quality. They have rolls from 1 ply up to 3 ply, so prices vary :)

We get two huge packs for $45. In EACH pack there are 8x6 rolls of 3 ply (300 sheets) at 110x105mm squares. I think this is one of the more expensive ones, so if you're happy with 1 ply, it'd be cheaper. You can buy one pack rather than two, but iirc, it's a few bucks cheaper to buy 2 packs at once. The number of rolls, ply, sheets etc vary obviously between 'brands'.

The store owners don't have great English skills but they can tell you the difference between the rolls. They also have rolls out of each packet for you to feel, so do ask them.

I'd say these are the same as what you find in the big supermarkets, only repackaged. As I said, they have a Quilton pack without branding.. it's the exact same stuff with the same embossed design.

They probably sell these to a lot of little restaurants, hence the bulk options.

        Enjoy! :P

        • Thanks. I'll check it out.

However, 3 ply and 300 per roll sounds a little dodgy to me, like per my post below about the ebay sellers. Hard to see how they get 300 sheets in a roll when Quilton and other well known brands can only manage 190 our thereabouts.

        • Wow, how times have changed, I used to buy Delsey from Coles that was 1000 sheets per roll. I was really shitty when they pulled that line (pun intended) off the shelf butt I still see its available on their online store. The fact that Quilton only has 190 sheets is just a sad fact that the manufacturers are downsizing the value - thats dodgy to me.
The Delsey single ply is so strong you dont worry about folding. Unfortunately they only sell it in individual rolls - price is 0.17 cents per sheet.
Coles own brand works out cheaper 0.13 cents (3ply 260 sheets).
And Quilton comes in at 0.26 cent. This is just working off Coles online site.
I hate the Quilton because you have to change the roll over 5 times more often compared to the Delsey.

  • I would suggest Woolworths. I have tried many and decided to stay with woolies no-frill toilet papers. Coles also has at the same price but woolies is better. Well, usually thats the only thing I buy woolies rest from Coles. :)

    • That's what I'm currently using but thought there'd be better out there.

ALDI 2 ply toilet paper is the best supermarket brand IMO.

    CONFIDENCE Toilet Tissue 2ply 12pk $3.79 (12c per 100 sheets).

  • try aldi…and be careful while you compare the prices, as some advertise price per 100 sheets and the other price per roll.

  • Are you a scruncher or a folder?

I've always gone with the 50c per bog roll yardstick as something to aim at.

  • Been doing a little research on ebay.

    Toilet paper buyers beware!

    Check out this listing:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOILET-PAPER-BULK-BUY-96-ROLLS-IN…

Says "425 sheets double ply" on each roll. Somehow these guys are getting almost twice the standard amount (250 or 260 sheets) into a standard roll. Doesn't sound right to me.

    • Free pickup. You could always check it.

    • The roll is bigger.

  • Aldi 3 ply confidence 24 roll pack is $9, makes it 38c a roll or just under 20c per 100 sheets (190 sheet rolls) so for 3 ply that's a great price.

  • There's plenty of places that sell factory second toilet paper. The most common issue is too much glue (first 10 sheets are harder to unroll etc)

There's one in Pendle Hill, and another on Kildare Rd, Doonside.
They generally have plenty of different brands, ie. Quilton, but the bags are unbranded as they are seconds.
