Campaquip Full Hot Plate for Weber Baby Q 100

Hi guys,

Mixed reviews, internet says excellent product as it heats very fast. However, retailers warn against this product as it voids warranty and is dangerous as the heat is trapped compared to an open hole grill.

Can someone help? A retailer said that it is possible that the full cast iron hot plate can pop up 20 metres in the air if not used correctly.

I would of assumed that this would be cooked whilst the top is open, not closed. There is a small vent in the middle where oil drips down, and very tiny gap and the sides, my question is of the top is opened, is it possible for the plate to "blow up"?

Cheer,

  • I'm hardly an expert as I just got my new weber, but why not have a look at the weber breakfast plate? Is that not pretty much the same thing (and I believe cheaper than the option you are looking at). Generally the weber is designed to cook with the top down (including with the breakfast plate) and cooks more by convection than direct heat. It may be alright but I'd go for the genuine article given you know it works and it's cheaper.

  • What are you wanting to cook on it? A teflon mat might be suitable for your purposes.

I've got the breakfast plate - the only thing I use it for on my weber is grilled onions. Other than that, its a pain - takes a LONG time to get any decent heat into it, and I reckon it prevents the weber from doing its thing properly.

Using a teflon mat (pick up at bunnings/kmart for $10) is the best thing for brekky (bacon/eggs/tomatos/mushys) on the weber. Breakfast plate is too small and again, too long to heat up.

  • tried to edit previous post to include:

if you want a plate because you dont know how to properly use a weber, learn how to properly use a weber. A plate on a weber will only make matters worse, not better.

  • I read with interest the comments on the Campaquip plate. Obviously the negative comments are those from people who have not experienced that plate or who have listened to, as it seems retailers who have not wished to sell the plate or have listened to Weber who have make suggestions as to their retailer standings if they sell the Campaquip plate.
I am the owner of Campaquip
I spent 2 1/2 years of development and testing of this plate with the final testing by a NATA registered laboratory which was recommended to us by a major barbeque retailer/developer. The testing included a new Weber Q100 barbeque and our plate as a combination and was to Australian standard AS4557 which is the standard that is used to certify/approve barbeques for use in this country. Tests include heating with lid closed and all other tests the standard called for. Like a copy of the test ask us.
We have carried out other tests that no barbeque would ever cope with and the barbeque is still used by myself.

The barbeque works wonderfully with our plate and those who suggest otherwise should call on us for a trial. To quote many users "the late turns a good barbeque into a great barbeque"
Weber suggest they will not honour their warranty if our plate is fitted. The law does not allow such however we will honour Webers warranty when our plate is fitted. We put our money where our mouth is
No need for slow heating, and all that rubbish you are told. Cook the Aussie way LID UP - FLAT PLATE - DRINK IN HAND
We are told that our plate is the single largest barbeque selling today and not one complaint. DOES THAT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION
