  • Anyone gone for the Fin Review?

    Thanks for the piracy tips

  • Thanks lots, but Fairfax one does not work :-(

    • the fairfax media script was updated 21 hours ago, try it again.

  • +3

For Fairfax media, just use Incognito mode, since they give you 30 free articles a month. Not to mention the numerous state variations (SMH, The Age, Canberra Times etc.)

  • how/where is incognito mode?

    • For Firefox: Cntl-Shift-P or Tools > Start Private Browsing

    • Ctrl+Shift+N for Chrome

    • -3

      clearly you are female.

      • +8

I think people took this joke the wrong way.. I think akula meant not that women are computer illiterate but that guys like looking at things on the web that they want to hide..

        • +1

lol @ akula (and I agree with jumpo's interpretation). I'm female, use the net for hours every day, not a computer noob or anything… but it was only a month or so ago that I actually found out how to use private browsing. Only came about because I wanted to continue reading the newspaper sites. Prior to that, I had no need to use it, so never bothered looking for that option :P

For news corp, change the URL from www.adelaidenow.com.au/blahblah to www.news.com.au/blahblah

  • Is the incognito for firefox also the same for chrome?

    • +1

For Chrome it's Ctrl-Shift-N or New incognito window from the Menu.

  • +2

For the SMH just add a rule to block cookies from that site.

  • from chrome in cntr-shift-N:

You've gone incognito. Pages you view in incognito tabs won't stick around in your browser's history, cookie store, or search history after you've closed all of your incognito tabs. Any files you download or bookmarks you create will be kept.

However, you aren't invisible. Going incognito doesn't hide your browsing from your employer, your internet service provider, or the websites you visit.

    • +1

Sure, always been the case for private browsing or incognito or whatever they call it. The main function of it is prevent other users of your browser from sering where you've been.

    Why not library.pressdisplay.com ?

FREE Instant Access to 2000+ Newspaper from around The World (Including Australia)

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/115020

    • that's just the digital edition print replica, not website access :(

      • -2

Yes, but you still have to pay for it.

FREE Instant Access to 2000+ Newspaper from around The World (Including Australia)

But that's only the front page, isn't it?

Edit: Apparently it isn't. I just entered a random 8-digit number as a library card number and got full access to today's Adelaide Advertiser. I'm currently paying Murdoch $4 a week for this. Looks like I can cancel that.

        • Doesn't give you Fairfax papers, says you are using app from Aussie, even with VP, as it detects you are using Aussie library access

        • Well, that didn't last long. Today, it won't accept a random 8-digit number as a valid library card number.

Edit: But I found one that works, from that other thread: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/115020

I wonder how the validation works.

  • Why anyone would want to read Murdoch's trash let alone go to the effort of installing a 'paywall bypass' to read it is beyond me.

Do you lack a brain of your own and really need Andrew Bolt and biased commentators to tell you what to think?

    • -8

I don't agree with Murdoch about a lot of things (for example his pro-Republican views) but the Australian at least has a little bit of factual reporting unlike the Age which is all politically correct opinion with zero facts.

And Andrew Bolt is a courageous individual who thinks for himself. That's why the PC brigade has tried to censor him. He had the nerve to point out the obvious… for example that it's mainly well connected rich white people who benefit from government welfare spending.

      • +4

If something is obvious, why does it need pointing out?

      • " it's mainly well connected rich white people who benefit from government welfare spending"

Of course it is the rich and their tax avoidance that is costing the government far more money than the battler getting $200 a week. I have never read this in the Herald Scum though.

People lap up what they read in the Murdoch press like a little puppy. Clearly OzBargain has some little puppies that like Uncle Andrew and biased commentators to tell them what to think.

      • smells like troll :p

      • Andrew Bolt is a sook

    • ….biased commentators to tell you what to think?

Yep give me Mike Carlton any day … ROFL

I am still interested in Fairfax, not Newsrubbish.

  • Any way to bypass from within Flipboard?

  • +3

For Fairfax websites (theage, smh, etc.), you can use adblock and add the following custom rule.

    ||fairfax.com.au^

    No need for incognito.

    • How exactly does that work zecoj - what exactly do you need to do? sounds like a good trick!

    • +1

adblock plus (https://adblockplus.org/en/chrome) is an addon that can be used to block various elements of a webpage (obviously intended for ads). The rule I posted blocks everything comes from fairfax.com.au which includes the advertisement scripts for fairfax websites.

Hi zecof, this is bloody great trick. Been looking for something like this for some times. I registered an account for Ozbargain just to say thanks. It WORKS!!

For anyone interested. To bypass on the iphone. You need to download a paid browser called Atomic Browser. And add an Ad block Filters. Certainly made my day.

    • That is just an awesome trick. Thank you so much.

  • Thanks OP !!!!

  • Thanks frostyboy et al. Very helpful.

  • For SMH as well, you can simply clear the cookies and/or history.

  • Or you can also clear your cookies when it says limit reached.

  • +1

i think you can get around installing any extensions by just clicking on the page icon in the address bar (on chrome, should be the same for other browsers)

this gives a dropdown with info on cookies and site data. expand that (show cookies and site data) and it tells you where cookies are going from the current site. then you can disable pretty much everything, and it will stop tracking how much you read

  • +2

Would rather use porn mode (or press ctrl-shift-del to clear cookies once the limit was up) than install a bunch of extensions.

    • incognito mode does not unblock financial review

incognito mode does not unblock premium articles on the australian, business spectator and eureka report

  • Hi zecof, Yes It WORKS!! The adblock plus WORKS!!! WOW! THANKS

  • these dont seem to be working anymore

    anyone else having this problem???

  • +1

The Australian paywall has been changed to be purely subscription only. I noticed it today.

    No solution for now…
