Yeah it's a Victoria special only for 50cents a kilo
Since Victoria has the only Greens MHR and the Greens are known as the watermelons (Green on outside….)
I guess its appropriate they get the price :)
Do you know if it is just today or is it until Sunday?
Someone in Australia needs to start doing this, and I'm happy to (gasp) pay extra for it.
Makes so much sense
It does make a lot of sense but labour costs in Australia are ridiculous.
It would either cost too much for consumers or most likely no supermarket would be willing to buy and sell them since the initial cost would leave little room for profit.
Even if you couldn't eat it?
This is a bit off topic, but have you seen other fruit they do similar things with?

I haven't seen any fruit like those sold, but I've seen words and symbols sort of printed on apples.
anyone else find seedless watermelons generally lack taste? ..compared to the seed variety?
Yep, I hate the seedless variety, unfortunately seedy watermelons are pretty hard to find nowadays.
Oh lawdy!
Our Coles selling at 88c.
What State are you in? I'm sure it's an advertised special of 50c kg, although I'm not sure how long the special runs for.
Woolworths south melbourne is also selling at 50 cents per kg :)
My local Woolworths was also selling Watermelon at 50 cents a kg. I chose to buy there instead of Coles. Coles only had whole watermelons for this price. Woolworths were prepared to sell the quarter watermelons at the 50 cents per kg price. I only wanted a small piece of watermelon so Woolworths got my purchase.
Yum. Eat while we can : )
