Decent quality Android phone, thats cheap?

Hey all,

I bought a cheap $150~ china phone (its the Flying F6770 if anybody was interested) June last year. As it stands now, the screen is cracked and the camera has shit itself, the white balance is totally out of whack. It wasn't a bad phone, it had its issues. Just the camera has died and I really miss taking photos of random stuff.

I am looking at a replacement, honestly wanting to spend as little as possible. But with what I want out of the phone, its probably not going to happen :(

Main areas of importance are, listed in highest to lowest priority;

Camera
GPS for navigation
Battery Life
5-5.5" Screen

I use my phone everyday, mostly for Internet browsing, Calls/Sms, emails. Don't play any games on my phone.

What should I be looking at?

Tempted to go another china phone, got mine from Antelife, but there support is absolutely shocking. Didn't answer my emails most of the time. Took over a month to receive the phone. But then again….If i could find something reasonably priced here, I would rather spend a little more and just get something half decent and be done with it for the next few years.

    • Or MotoG if you're willing to spend a bit more and need something closer to 5" screen size.

      • was tempted by the moto g, but the camera looks horrible…

        • If you want camera quality, perhaps look at used high end models. ie S3?

Then again.. China phones don't have a reputation for great camera quality either. you should do some comparison.

        • Megapixels aren't everything. It's very likely a 5 mpx on a MotoG can be just as good as a 8 megapixel shooter on a Chinadroid.

  • m0tyrider, you really need to give us a price range and also tell us what carrier you use, as that actually makes all the difference.

I've been looking around at a few china phones and can recommend a few (also point you to a good whirlpool thread about it) or if a local one is better, knowing your carrier will make it easier for people to suggest things for you.

    • lol I just saw your post in the Whirlpool thread I was going to suggest you look at. Those two phones you asked about aren't around $150.

If you're looking around that price, have a look at the Q9000, it's like a Galaxy S3 I think, spec wise.

    • I want a phone with the same specs as the Huawei G526, as you may know the sale for this phone isn't on any more.
      My budget 100 - 150.

    • Price range. Ideally around $150~$250.

But for something brand name Id be looking at spending double that $500~.

I am on boost mobile, (so telstra). My china phone has 850mhz/2100mhz 3g bands and reception has been great. But the little bugs it now has are starting to give me the shits,. Specifically the camera, and answering calls on bluetooth can turn my radio off…its really frustrating. Just don't want the same experience with another china phone.

Can probably find this phone cheaper else where if you shop around.

  • check lenovo s920 or higher depends on your budget. I am using s920 as my secondary phone now. the battery is awesome and it's smooth too. and quad core. really surprise with the performance considering I bought it only for 200 something I forgot.

  • For you guys info, any decent brand new China phones are about $200+ so if there is anything lower than that, you need to watch out.

  • also recommended to try red mi, which is made by a famous China phone manufacturer xiaomi. price are roughly $200.

  • Still hunting for a phone, leaning more towards a china phone again.

I bought mine for about $140 usd, 5" screen, 720p, quad core, 1gb ram. Performance is fine, but as i said earlier, the bluetooth is horrible (people can't understand me and i sound like a robot) and the camera has pooped itself.

The red mi seems interesting, but would want it to be 850/2100mhz for telstra. Also being just under 5" is a bit of a downfall, would really want 5" to 5.5" screen.

Any others you guys can recommend?

  • Thanks everyone for all your advice, Ended up getting the Moto G for $230 from Good guys.

Honestly, I am extremely happy with the phone, does everything I want it to do. All for a decent price.

Felt much safer buying the Moto G then risking it again with a chinese phone.

Really the only down fall so far, is the camera. But that said, its not like its bad. Its just not in the same league as a $500-$1000 phone. And for the money, extra $250+ for a better camera? I could just buy a digital camera and be done with it.
