Almost read RRP800 now $69, what a confusing model number.

    • +6

perhaps the model number was designed to confuse us OZbargainer to buy it by impulse.

    • How is the slow cook function ?

I was reading some reviews online that it is terrible. I want to know from your experience whether that's true or not, if you ever have used that function with the cooking device.

      • +2

        @bong
No problem with slow cook function so far

I will not post this deal for my fellow ozbargainers if the product is rubbish

        Have a nice day

It has a sautee function so you can brown (and pre-heat the unit) before slow-cooking.

It has pressure cooking ability, so if your slow-cooked meal is still not cooked enough after the duration you want, you can pressurise it up and finish the job in 10 minutes.

The only problem I have with the slow-cook is that it only goes up to 8 hours. I think it then switches to "keep warm" for another 4 hours or so, but I'd prefer a ~10 hour slow cook, so you could fill it up and turn it on in the morning, go to work, do the regulation 9 hours at the salt mine, get home, and have dinner ready when you walk through the door.

I also bought one when they were on sale last year. +1 would buy again. Recommended.

Thanks op. I'm gonna get me one of them there things.

  • This looks pretty tempting. I've already got a stove top one but I only have electric heating which is really annoying because there is no setting low enough to keep it at pressure rather than increasing pressure. Plus my wife will feel confident enough to use it while I'm at work.

    • I agree. The pressure on bench top ones is generally not as good but the ability to set and forget more than makes up for it.

        • @paizuri: Don't forget, the benchtop/electric models don't have the option* for rapid/quick steam release - sometimes, you just want to get to those lamb shanks quicksmart!

        • info from 2 years ago…technology may have improved since then.

    • Very late 2 cents:

      • I've just moved from a gas house to a %$#@! electric element flat (am planning to get portable induction cooktop!) and have the same problem: what I do is just move the PC to the next smallest hob once it has come to pressure.
  • Thanks, OP, I'll be heading to Target on the 13th.

  • Just picked one up this morning. Plenty in Canberra city store.

  • Just bought it online and going to collect at Forest Hill (VIC)

  • This is a quite old model without a timer and there is no link between lid and the cooker itself. besides those it is a good bargain.

  • Are there dimensions for the pressure release hole size?

Also can the temperature be controlled?

    • it is a very basic high pressure cooker without temp control.

  • I bought this pressure cooker when the last of the kids left home, and the huge stove-top cooker became too large.
The electric cooker is much easier to set and (almost)forget. The saute function saves time with no frying pan to wash, and because pressure cookers reduce the cooking time so much, they are great to use in summer, and indispensable for winter curries!
I couldn't be without mine. Bought on Target sale for $70.00.

  • My last pressure cooker worked very well until it died a few months ago. It was great for corned beef!

This one looks to be very similar, so I'm buying.

Details on Ronson page at www.ronson.com.au/appliances/entry/rpr800 , instruction booklet (PDF) at www.ronson.com.au/images/stories/instruction-booklets/RPR800…

Online reviews and comments here don't speak well of it in slow-cooker mode, but that's unimportant for me.

Thanks to OP for the post.

bought one yesterday and made a pressure cooked panang curry
    it's fantastic
    simple, yet works perfectly well
the curry flavours were kinda lost, but that's a recipe / cooking issue
the flavours from the ingredients / meat were amazing
was using oyster blade beef, which usually takes quite some time to simmer down / break down the collagen etc, it was tender and falling apart in 24 minutes, really impressive.
my first pressure cooker and i'm glad i got it, cheers.
