Good Guys FREE $50 Store Credit When You Book a Kitchen Design Appointment

Hi.

Wondering if anyone can work out any cunning loop holes with this deal from the Good Guys.

Is there a way to collect the $50 without getting a rep to your house?

I'm sure someone will come up with a cunning plan. Cheers.

I would think unlikely, having booked a "quote" previously- they did come out to perform the quote quite quickly. Their major selling point is that they provide you with the quote on the spot - which they did after a couple of hours (literally 2 hours) to write up and design their quote.

The end price was reasonable, however at that stage I hadn't received many other quotes - so wasn't in a position to make a decision there and then. And that's where it got a little bit uncomfortable.

The rep advised that the price being offered was only valid if we decided to go with them there and then, and that any discounts offered would only be received if we decided to go with them. I wanted to shop around a little more to get a wider range of options - to which I explained this to the rep, who then got a little but narky, acting like I'd wasted his time. When I confirmed that I was prepared to sign up with them, he upped and left in a huff.

Anyway, I ended up getting many quotes from a wide range of kitchen and cabinet makers, and Good Guys certainly wouldn't have been competitive with any of them.

    • When I confirmed that I was prepared to sign up with them, he upped and left in a huff.

  • The quote is useless on the site. TGG only gives you a figure, with nothing documented and support, or even drafted. If you decided to go with them, and once they detailed what are these cabinets are, the price will go up as the initial check will never be thorough to include everything.

And on the other hand, unless you have already seen all the samples in the TGG shops about the doors, handles, edges…etc. The man came on site did not have every sample with him. Don't expect too much for the initial appointment.

  • opps..
    *wasn't prepared.

  • I was all set to sign up (actually considering doing something with my kitchen, so this is pretty handy), but noticed something in the T&Cs about being presented with a contract at the appointment. Not too keen on that - I'm in the process of gathering prices and comparing what different places offer. For people who have had them visit before, is it a real hard sell or are they generally okay (albeit a little narky by the above report) if you explain that you're in the stage of seeking quotes etc?

It takes a couple of hours?

  • They are fairly hard sell. They assume you are going to sign the contract on the spot. Normally takes around 1~2 hours depending on the size of your kitchen. They will take the meansurements and try to draft something to see how many cabinets will sit in place. But as I said before, it is only a draft and they will not hand you anything. The quote is based on the draft. Unless you know what they did were exactly correct, and you know what you need from the samples that they provided, or you have seen them in the TGG demo kitchen. Then the quote may be more close to the finalised costs. The more close to reality figure will only given to you after you sign the contract. And it may still vary between 0-20% from the initial quote, depending how accurate they did.

After you signed the contract with TGG, there will be another site check with another guy to verify the quote and draft from the first guy (sales) to make sure there is no erros or omissions. And to make sure whether the plumbings, meters or any other obstacles may be in place. The types and numbers of cabinet may be varied here as well as the costs.

And remember, the quote given by the TGG guy is only about cabinets, there should be another quote for the benchtop, another quote for the labour. All these are separated and not one contract concluded.

If you tried the others, they are pretty much the same. Perhaps may not be as hard sell as TGG. But usually they will just give you a quote how much will cost you about your kitchen depending on size, but still nothing solid written down or given to you. Unless you decide to proceed, and a detailed drawings of what would be in the kitchen can be done. But this drawings will only be provided after you sign the contract.

There are a few websites let you draft your own kitchen and estimate the cost, e.g. ikea. Which may give yourself an idea what could go into the kitchen, but the costs cannot be compared with TGG or other quotes (much expensive).

The design prepared by TGG is not good enough as no one will try to explain to you what are included in there. How many cabinets, drawers…. etc. You have to guess from the drawings. The other kitchen specialists may have a better draft and documented better.

I've got 3 quotes including TGG and ended up going with TGG. The quotes that I were given were pertty about the same. As I am redoing the whole kitchen (not fancy one, just regular L shape), I try to save a bit of hazzles including getting all the appliances from TGG. They said they will give you a very special manager discount as you bought a kitchen from them.

Whether I would recommend TGG to others? Perhaps, depending on your situation. If you prefer one place shop all and no fancy, then TGG or HN would be your choice. If you are looking for a gourmet kitchen, shop somewhere.

    Cheers,
