Need a plan or PayGO SIM on Telstra network (3G is fine) $20 or less

Topic kind of covers it! :)

I own my handset outright and I'm ok with only 3G data, I NEED about 400mb a month, I'd prefer around 600mb to be safe.
I make very few calls a month, but a lot of SMS - maybe around 100 SMS a month? Could be more.
I do let a lot of messages to go voicemail and then retrieve them, maybe 10 messages a month? and I reckon outgoing calls probably at most 10 calls a month at a total of less than 30 minutes? (that's 3 minutes a call, not 30 minutes a call)

I saw a telechoice plan which is $30 (without contract) or $20 with contact which looked ok for me to do "testing" with for a month or two, before I switch it to a plan to save $10 a month.

Curious if anyone has any feedback or opinions on other options too.
Thanks all, I appreciate it.

Please don't say "Voda / Optus aren't that bad" too, just.. don't bother, I hate Telstra too but it honestly really is the only option for consistent reliability.

Yeah the "$500" calls of fake dumb money, (I hate how we do it that way) did seem viable. So you reckon that's the way to go? - Can I get the Kogan offer? Wasn't that like a "sorry Kogan went tits up, here's a special deal for you guys?"

  • Yep, you can get the $20 plan for a year. You don't have to be a previous Kogan subscriber. I switched to it after the Live Connected debacle.

Considering its now $8 more expensive than what I used to pay for, service has been stellar, and I am so far, happy. Coverage in my neck of the woods is definitely far better.

  • read really bad reviews on telechoice, ppl unable to use data and overcharging.

personally i just buy half priced telstra prepaid kits for $10-$15 dollar a month and port in and out to use them.

there's a app in playstore where you can turn the $30 credit to $15 real money so effectively it's free!
bit of hassle and time but cant beat free…

    • Is that the Payback app? Have you actually used it?

      • Don't use this app. I transferred some money using it. It gave me some error and also deducted my Google store money. Now I am $20 short. Ba****d

        • Thanks for the heads up!

    • That sounds kind of awkward to do, I don't like that messing around - can it be done without porting in and out all the time?

I heard a few bad reviews admitedly on telechoice also but surely it's simply the Telstra network, right? I mean I only want 3G 14mbit in Melb CBD - I don't go into the burbs.

I'm currently with TLS now and happy with it. I thought resellers it's the same product just different billing systems for example?
