Multifunction colour laser printer with networking

Hi All,

Looking for a colour wireless or wired printer that supports scanning etc… must be laser.
Is there any deals at the moment?
Can anyone recommend a brand that is well regarded as being a colour laser? I am sick to death of el cheapos that that cost a fortune in printer cartridges and only last for a month with minimal printer (Lexmark).
Considerations are that the cartridges dont cost the earth to replace.

Thanks,
Jason

  • Price is negotiable but around 300 or so.. happy for it to be less :)

  • How about a Fuji Xerox DocuPrint CM215fw? They were $279.99 at Costco a month ago, when I picked one up for my daughter. I don't go there often, so I don't know if that's changed.

I use a CM205fw (previous model) at home, my wife uses one at her shop, and I've also setup one for a friend. All good.

I've been using compatible toner cartridges. All good there, too.

There's a mile-long thread on the CM205fw on the Whirlpool forums.

    • OP is adamant about wanting a laser printer, but Fuji Xerox DocuPrints are NOT actually laser printers. They use a fixed, Self-scanning Light-Emitting Diode (S-LED) process to create the page image, rather than a moving laser beam. Supposedly the advantages include less moving parts, reduced energy usage, etc.

As for the cost of toner cartridges, unless OP is prepared to utilise refilled/remanufactured/non-OEM cartridges, colour printing is always an expensive business because cartridges are where the profits are for printer manufacturers. Buying the printer is a one-off deal, but the need for toner supplies continues throughout the life of the machine: $$$$$!

  • I'm on the lookout at the moment too, and I'm keeping my eye on these:

    • Brother MFC-9140CDN - Colour laser multifunction with duplex printing and networking, colour touchscreen
    • Brother MFC-9330CDW - Colour laser multifunction with duplex printing and wireless, colour touchscreen (I'm not 100% sure but I think it has duplex scanning as well)

The are currently on sale at inkman for $299 and $359 respectively, according to shopbot.

    I saw these too:
    - Samsung CLX-3305FW and CLX-4195FW which are colour laser multifunctions but don't do duplex printing or scanning so I crossed them off the list

Currently on sale at $209 and $259 respectively.

If you are not picky about duplex printing, these would probably the be cheapest at the moment.
If you need duplex, then as far as I can see though, the brother ones are the best bang for the buck - none of the others in the price range (including HP, Dell) do it.

  • Thanks all,
Cuteseal, have you looked into whether the brother MFC-9149CDN can be refilled easily and cheaply? Ive never owned a laser printer so never been down this road before.
The CLX-4195FW does support scanning, but as you say doesn't support duplex printing.

    • Cheap Brother refill toners on eBay: http://preview.tinyurl.com/mqklpax

    • No, not sure, haven't looked honestly.
By the way, I meant duplex printing OR duplex scanning in my previous comment. Of course they would support scanning - they are multifunctions. :D
