Passport photos

Hi all,

I need to get some passport photos done for my child. I have no idea what they usually cost. I would like to ask where do you usually go to get passport photos done? I have seen passport photo booths around, but not sure if it is a good idea, as I am not sure my child will sit still while the photo is being taken.

Thanks.

  • My sis took her 4 months old son to Ted's camera. I think they're good, they'll keep taking pic until they could get the best result and won't charge you for the failed ones. But I dunno how much. u might wanna check with them directly

Most post offices can do them.
We did our own with a $90 p&s canon camera ne printed on a cheap printer. Was not too difficult.
Passport website shows what is required in a photo… what is acceptable and what is not.

  • Officeworks can do them. There are a lot of requirements now regarding the photo so you are best to avoid a booth.

  • Post office. They won't exactly be the most flattering or well-lit but they'll work. If you go to a little camera shop, you can usually haggle.

    My experience
Kids don't sit still for those photos

Lie them on white or plain coloured sheet and take photos with lights on from ceiling

Use this site to make them any size you want

    http://makepassportphoto.com/
    http://www.idphoto4you.com/
    https://www.passports.gov.au/web/requirements/photos.aspx

Save them on usb or your phone and go to local Office Works and print them for 20 photos for 1 buck ( 5 sheets x.19 )

    • put a fav show on ipad or similar in front of the child and take the photo while he/she is watching it :)
then use idphoto4you and print at officeworks.

      that's what i did.

Thanks everyone, sorry, I forgot to mention that it is for a New Zealand passport. I had a look at the post office website and it will cost $16.95 and no mention of whether they do NZ passport photos. I couldn't find anything on Officeworks website, I would imagine they would cost something similar.

I had a look at the photo requirements, looks doable using my own camera, the idphoto4you website and printing it at one of my local print shop when they have a free prints offer on. :)

Passport photos = free. :) Thank you all so much for all your suggestions. Cheers, bro.

That's exactly what I did for mine. Took a picture of myself using my camera, went to Harvey Normans to get pictures printed (I think they were 9c a print) and submitted to NZ Embassy online as an attached jpeg file when I renewed my passport. Took less than a week to receive the renewed passport via post.

In your case, you'd probably have to send all your documents to the NZ embassy in Sydney as this will be an application for a brand new passport.

    • Is this for passport renewal, if so you can do it all online. It automatically checks the photo when you upload. Also much cheaper cost than by post.
Also post office does NZ if not.

    • It is for a passport renewal, and I think I cannot submit an online form for a child passport renewal based on what I have read. I think the passport office treats child passport renewals as new passport applications.

There is a important note after the heading on the page above. Please let me know if I am wrong.

      • Yeah, Sorry looks like that's correct. So you will have to go the Sydney option as that would be the cheapest.

  • I took my own photo and printed my own photo at home with photo paper :)

  • Costco does it for $4.99pp (membership required) - but you'll need to know the size you want so they print it correctly.

  • I used camera house. Their photos got rejected and I didn't keep my receipt. Still planning on going in and getting stuck into them. In short don't use camera house.

  • try Kmart, i got 6 photos for $6, worked for my NZ passport. I believe they have a guarantee as well if you keep your reciept (not 100%)

  • Take a headshot in proper light following the directions of the passport application. Use photoshop or powerpoint to put 6 photos on a 4x6 aspect photo. Send to Teds on line for $0.15. Pick them up tomorrow.

    • You can get 8 photos on a 4" by 6" print. OfficeWorks prints for 12c (which is 10c if you pay cash).

  • In short, there seems to be a few ways:
DIY - 10-15c or free (required camera, PC and photo editing software)
Costco - $4.99 (on the spot)
Kmart - $6 (on the spot)

Hopefully this thread builds and we get a good list of places going.

  • It's not the cheapest option, but another option to add to the list is that you can get a photographer to do them - they know all the requirements and I don't think they cost that much. Eg http://www.classicphotographics.com.au/other-services.aspx
