just wondering if anyone knows if there is any problems purchasing prescription medication for a pet from the UK and getting it sent to Victoria , it is one third the price of the vet .
The vet gave me the script as the UK company needs that to supply .

Tried this with " Previcox " for one of our dogs. Ordered on line from America with a script as was soooo much cheaper.Did receive them apx. 2 months later but meanwhile received a phone call from CUSTOMS asking what they were for & why ( although it clearly states for canine use ) After re-assuring the customs commandant this she agreed to release them to us "but only this once - do not purchase overseas again "
My main gripe is why we have to pay $4.00 a tablet here at home when from abroad they are only $1.00 each (bought them by the bottle from America) & that included shipping. Poor Dougal has since passed away but we may still need these in the future for our other dogs.We are not drug users - just trying to do the best for our dogs to ensure a pain free life from arthritic joints as they get older. So Geo59 by all means give it a go but be aware of the customs situation. Good Luck. What kind of medication is it? Is it strictly for animal use, or is it possible to get from a pharmacy?
Previcox is a prescription only medication for dogs to help to relieve the pain from arthritic joints - not sold in pharmacies- only from a vet. It's a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. There are others that can be prescribed from your vet, but this one is the least invasive to their bodies. Not for human use.Whether human anti-inflammatories could be used I don't know.
I was actually asking geo59 what medication they needed :)
You could ask your pharmacist if they can get it in. You never know your luck.
When my cat(RIP) got glaucoma the vets wanted $150 for her med (which we were going through every 3 days). At the chemist it cost us $40.
For real? So the chemist could order in the animal medication? Was it a private chemist or part of a chain?
RIP to your kitty btw :(
I fork out heaps for animal medication.
Nah this was human medication so the vet could do a script. Point is that the chemist might be able to order in non-human meds.
My dog has to take medication for bladder stones, caused by excess uric acid. Same problem causes gout in humans (and, yes, I have tried to restrict his red wine intake!)
He has to take allopurinol. It costs a bomb if you purchase through the vet, however she kindly writes a script so I can purchase at my pharmacy, where it is much cheaper. I do have to explain why the patient has the last name (dog).
So if it is a drug formula that has been adapted to animal use from human use, worth trying to get at your pharmacy. However Previcox is animal (horse, dog) use only so it wont be possible.
hi thanks for the replies , it is for vetmedin 1.25mg capsule the dog has a heart murmur , I will ask at the chemist tomorrow
You'd need to check with quarantine to make sure the specific drugs involved are not a prohibited/ restricted import.
