LifeSpan X-40 Cross Trainer - Advice or reviews?

Hi All,
Thinking about buying a LifeSpan X40. I'm a little concerned because I generally buy big ticket stuff based of reading lots of reviews, but for this I can't find very much.

The main reason I'm getting it is it's max weight, 200kg, which is I'm ashamed to say going to be required (long story work in progress to reverse). It seems to look like a decent machine, but would love if anyone's had experience out there with either this specific unit, or LifeSpan in general.

Thanks.

  • If you are breaking into a fitness routine, I wouldn't suggest this sort of machine.
I'd first get into a routine. Go walking and see if you will stick to a routine.
Everyone I know with this machine, have a fancy clothes rack. They used it like crazy for a month
at most now it has their work attire on it.

Walking is free, exercising on these sorts of machines becomes boring quick. (I own a treadmill and use it only in winter)

  • Physically can't walk easily. Too fat. I've been seen by a exercise physio and they said a cross trainer is the best option because it's virtually no impact combined with a good cardio. I've used one a few times now at a gym and I don't mind it (I mean, it's still the dreaded Exercise Beast, but it's easier than walking).

Eventually I want to loose enough weight to ride a bike, which I used to enjoy. Need to get there first!

Regardless, I thank you for your advice.

    Cheers

  • +1

Well, ilostnemo isn't entirely wrong. I just bought LifeSpan Spin Bike.. used it for a month, now its sitting collecting dust. I am still yet to try get back on it, but I haven't got the discipline yet. :/

In terms of the brand, my spinbike was of high quality. It takes a bit to assemble it, that in itself is an exercise.

But another suggestion, is to find local fitness shop where you can hire and eventually use the amount paid to buy it off if you decided to buy it (try Orbit). Because as mentioned before, it takes a lot of discipline to get into exercising habit!

In another context, you can try building discipline around your eating habit too (eg. no sugary drinks, no carbs, healthy food, etc). That will test how dedicated you are in your weight loss journey and will contribute a lot as well.

    All the best!

  • Hi John
Both, actually. I've got a lot of weight to loose and if it's going to work I need to change diet and exercise, both of which are still 'swear words' but the motivation is finally winning.

The plan is to start to fix dietry issues (which I'm seeing a dietician for). Main problem is serving size more than anything. Also to fix what and when (so better, and more often. Commonly only eat 1 or 2 meals atm). Finally exercise. All of this is pre-empting a stomach sleeve operation at the end of the year (Same thing Mikey Robbins and Joe Hockey had).

I totally understand the motivation issue, and I think you're both right. The odd thing is though I'm a scrooge (I am on OzBargain!) and I think if I spend ~$700 on something I'll be more inclined to use it rather than higher something and 'oh well, return it'. Exercise motivation through greed.

Really appreciate your input though and good thoughts.

  • Thats what I thought when I spent $600 on my new bike. I'm not discouraging you, but unfortunately that kind of motivation does not always work haha. Another good way is to have someone who can motivate you. Professional trainer, or real good friend who can seriously kick your butt off to start exercising.. or commit to a class so that the trainer will keep an eye on you..

  • For the motivation and help look at gethealthynsw.com.au . It is a free advice and motivational program by the department of health . I find the more people who are watching / checking in the better the motivation .
About the cross trainer mine is an expensive clothes rack. Maybe have an ask around. Often people don't sell them because they think they will use them but maybe a friend or friend of a friend might have one that they would let you borrow for a month or so to try it out.

  • I found this old thread asking for any experience with this machine.
(it's actually the second result for Lifespan X40 on Google)

Your post really could have been written by me, in that I need an orbital/cross trainer because walking is difficult, I need one with a high weight capacity, and I loathe to buy something so expensive without any reviews.

So did you end up buying this machine, and if so, what is your opinion of it?
