Sony Micro Vault - EasyLock Security Program

Hi, I recently bought a Sony Micro Vault Click USB3.0 with free download security software “Easy Lock” I have no idea how it works, I have contacted Sony numerous times but have no reply. They are so useless or have no technical knowledge on the products. Hope you guys can help me with this. I want to know why the easy lock is not launch automatically when insert in the computer?

    1. Is the EasyLock software in a zip file or has it been unpacked?

    2. If already unpacked, is the EasyLock software located in the root directory of the Micro Vault, or is it in a folder?

This looks to be the complete, official EasyLock user manual: http://www.endpointprotector.com/support/pdf/manual/EasyLock…

  • Hi Thanks for the informations it very handy for future references.
Because I have a WD Ultra Passport portable drive, password protected prevents anyone from using the portable drive no matter what. I like to know why the easy lock is not auto start where I have to enter the password before I can get access to my USB drive or easy lock do not have this option available or is it just an encrypted software only. Therefore, if anyone found the Sony Micro Vault Click it can reformat and use as a new drive?
    Cheers

    • I don't think that EasyLock works in the way you seem to expect it to - it only locks up your files, not the Micro Vault itself. I don't believe that EasyLock prevents somebody else from reformatting and using your Micro Vault if you lose it or they steal it.

If you read the manual, you will find that encrypted files are invisibly stored on the Micro Vault and can only be seen and accessed by the authorised user via the EasyLock app. EasyLock doesn't prevent access to the Micro Vault by others, however there is no way for anybody else to see that your secured files exist or to decrypt them.

My understanding is that your WD Ultra Passport drive has a different implementation of security, with your password stored in the onboard controller encryption firmware, so that all drive access can be blocked to non-authorised users. The downside to this approach is that if your Passport drive ever becomes damaged or faulty, you will be unable to remove the hard drive from the enclosure to recover your files, as read access to the encrypted drive is totally dependent on the code and password lodged in the original firmware.

  • Thanks again, for providing yours technical knowledge on this issue, I would never get this answer from Sony. What you said about the password protected on my WD got me a bit concern now.
    Cheers
