I caught a glimpse of a news post header that said the effects of the cutbacks would start today.
A little off topic here…
I've just found out Qantas only has ONE direct flight daily from Melbourne to Hong Kong. One direct flight daily from Sydney to HKG.
Cathay Pacific: 3 direct flights daily Melb-HKG, 4 (FOUR!) Syd-HKG
I would have thought there's a balance between CX and QF.
(Sorry to hijack the topic)
CX flights to HKG have connections to lots of other cities in Asia/Europe/USA/etc. while Qantas passengers to HKG mostly finish there.
Lucky for us in WA.
we have Scoot, Tiger and Jetstar.I found Expedia.br only shows cheap qantas flight when Qantas has a sale! it does not display it all the time.. as it was only a loophole for sales ticket that leads to the cheap price

Qantas is flying one A380 now for the Syd-HKG, and because they partner with Emirates now so most of the flight go to Dubai instead of HKG for connection to Europe.Brazil(sale city) has apparently been excluded on the current Singapore sale according to ausfrequentflyerforums. BKK still works.
Whats wrong with checking Qantas directly - that will answer your question a lot faster.
Here is what they say for the 20th April
Two direct flights from Sydney09:25 Sydney Duration: 8h 35m 16:00 Singapore Stops: 0 QF81
15:10 Sydney Duration: 8h 10m 21:20 Singapore Stops: 0 QF5
Plus one from Brisbane, 1 from Melbourne, and a number of code shares with Emirates.
The only thing is there is no sale fares listed.
But a simple look at the calendar tells you its Easter and smack damn in the middle of school hols, hence it's not included in their sale…
as for some of the Qantas doomsayers above., I'm ROFL
They still fly there but nothing anymore from Adelaide and Perth,Cairns and Darwin are Jetstar operated.A Bit disappointing for South Australia as it gave us a nice lunchtime departure which got us into Singapore in time to hit the night clubs or provided you decline the second meal on the plane a Nice Meal at Newton Circus.
Hey coldymyst, yeah I noticed the same thing the site. Weird, my guess is the same as yours; financial issues and the CEO cutting down staff/selling terminals to save money.
