I had my eyes on these PSPs at Big W since they never sold and I figured they would be put on clearance soon and they have, but for $78 and I don't know if it is worth it. Since these are newer I would guess they aren't hackable for homebrew games and it has no wifi either. Is it possible the price might drop further, because I could see it being worth it at $50 but at this price, is it worth it?
PSP e1000 $78 at Big W-worth it?

I'd save the $78 & put it towards a Vita. They can play the PSP digital games (which are really cheap nowadays) and all the newer games.
I was thinking about that but Vita memory cards are a ripoff.
They are yes. Still its worth it, they have subsidized the price of the console to well below its true value I think. You could try eBay or Gumtree and get one with a card? Also early April we will see a slim version with Borderlands 2 and 8GB card for $199 on Amazon.
the memory cards are expensive but games are cheap on sale which negates the expensive memory cards.
Without wi-fi I'd never feel complete. But that's cheap.
You could always get a used one from EB Games. I've purchased 5 used PSPs in the past from EB Games and they all still work to this day. When buying them however, check them over for faulty buttons and ask them to turn it on just to check if it works correctly. It's a great machine and for $50 (PSP 1000), you'll get plenty out of it.
Otherwise as stated by others, a PS Vita would be a better investment if you plan on buying games rather than using UMDs.
(PSP 1000)
I recommend the PSP Slim for slightly more (versions 2000-3000) because the 1000 almost damn broke my wrist. Shit was seriously heavy.
If you only intend on playing with UMD and definitely want a brand new product then it's alright, the mono-speaker is not a issue since you should be playing with earphones.
But I reckon you can get a nice used older model for the same price at Gum tree or something.
