BigW has dropped the price on Kobo aura to $168.

Picked up a black one the other day from Boxhill BigW and they still had a couple left.

Asked if they would price match the pink version from JB Hifi, and they did!!, even though the colour is different.

Link to JB Hifi for price matching.

Reciept for proof

Worked out very well with the offer below.

Thought it was Aura HD. Gah.

It seems to have the same resolution as the Glo or Touch. What's different about the Aura over those two?

    • Aura has a higher res screen than a regular Kobo Touch (which is 800x600) and virtually the same res as Kobo Glo (1024x768 for Glo and 1014x758 for Aura). I guess they are using those hidden 5 pixel wide columms and rows on each edge for lighting or touch screen technology or something?? Funny thing is I always thought that the screen res of the actual eInk screen itself was underrated anyway and just dependant on what is driving it, so not sure why they would need to reduce resolution to give a buffer zone on each edge if that is the case.

Speaking of Touch screens, I think that's the biggest difference. The Aura has a capacitive touch screen whilst the Glo and Touch both use Infrared which is perhaps not quite as good. The Aura also has a screen that is flush with the bezel which is a bonus.

      • So why is it more expensive than the Glo? Just the capacitive touch screen?

        • That would be my guess. Haven't seen one in the flesh. Might have a faster processor or something, not sure on that one.

  • Gotta say, I've played with the Glo and the Aura,
Glo seems a nicer reading machine to me

Edit: that was in reply to lostn.
