Aldi Brass Hose Accessories sold without a trigger nozzle in Sydney

Has anyone else noticed that the 4 piece brass hose accessories included in this week's Aldi sale catalogue has a 4" spray nozzle that we are not allowed to use in the "Sydney Water" area (Sydney, Blue Mountains, Illawarra)? Aldi isn't substituting a triggger nozzle in the pack. Since there is a $220 fine for not complying with the requirement to use a trigger nozzle it doesn't make sense to sell a pack with a spray nozzle in it within the Sydney Water area.

Which leads me to question why Govt departments like Fair Trading etc aren't communicating with each other on issues of selling items, that if used, break the law and result in the consumer getting a fine. It doesn't seem right that a product can be sold that can't be legally used. In some ways this makes the product "not fit for purpose", a Trade Practices Act issue. I'm interested in others thoughts…

  • What if you use tank or bore water? Still illegal?

    • Great thought! Guess that justifies Sydney sales. Bore water is out of the question in my area and tank water is limited on older houses where roofs may have asbestos in them or have other issues that limit the use of the water for drinking /vegie garden purposes. Thanks for replying.

  • What's the logic behind the ban? If you want to waste water, you'll just remove the nozzle altogether and just let the hose run.

    • Yes and I'm sure plenty of people do. The logic is that trigger nozzles lower the wastage of water between plants and you can't throw the hose on the ground and just walk away letting it keep running. Having said that I have had a friend burst a hose by turning the nozzle off but forgetting to turn off the tap! Thank you for your response.
