Options for sending audio from my TV to a set of headphones/earbuds

Hey All,

Advice is required: I'd like to be able to watch TV later at night without disturbing my neighbours (very thin walls).

I'd prefer not to have to buy a wireless headphone set (such as Sennheiser RS160 etc) as I want to use a regular pair of earbuds rather than an over-ear set.

I'd like to transmit the audio (either via bluetooth or wifi, not IR) from the TV to a receiver which I can connect to any headphones/earbuds I prefer. Does anyone have a working set-up like this and if so can you recommend bluetooth over wifi, or any specific equipment that works well?

I've tried searching but am getting confused with inter-changeable use of terms like transmitter and receiver, can't seem to find a paired set of both for sale.

My TV is a Sammy 40' F6400 model which doesn't AFAIK include the option to transmit audio via bluetooth.

I have about $60 to spend.

Thanks!

I was after a similar solution recently as well. Instead of neighbours, I have a girlfriend that needs quiet to study. So same problems.

I ended up going down the bluetooth path. But if you want to do this, be prepared to pay more then $60. I think I paid about $100 all up for mine.

Firstly, I bought a pair of bluetooth headphones from MEEletronic through the below deal.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/130682

These are quiet good. I'm not a audiophile or anything but I quite like the sound out of them. So that was around $80.

Then on Ebay, I bought a small bluetooth transmitter that has a 3.5 jack attached to it. You can find heaps of them online and they go for around $20 to $25. The one I bought chargers via a usb cable. So I plug the transmitter into the headphone jack in the TV and run the usb cable to a powerboard of mine that has a usb port (when I bought the powerboard I thought I'd never use it). Then I pair the two devices (pretty simple put both devices into pair mode and have them about 1 meter apart) and you're good to go.

And the bluetooth transmitter also works without the usb cable. Mine says you get about 6 hours of use out of it better it runs out. This has been great as I have a tv in the lounge and the bedroom, so I just take the device out of one tv and put it in the other.

Hope that helps. Also, I did get the headphones on special but its worth hitting up the OP as he's a store rep and does deals all the time. Maybe he can do something for you.

    Good luck

    • Great info, thanks! How do you find the sound quality via bluetooth? Any dropouts/crackle/hiss etc?

Hoping someone here has experience with a bluetooth adaptor for the headphones too as I want to use my own earbuds.

If anyone has had a good experience with a specific brand of transmitter/receiver from China, I'd love to hear.
