Hitachi DB3DL2 3.6V Li-Ion Cordless Screwdriver - $108 at Masters (RRP $128-$170)

THIS IS NOT A DRILL

Seriously though, this really isn't a drill, it's purely a screwdriver! I was in the market for a decent dedicated cordless screwdriver for the workshop instead of using my crazy overpowered Impact Driver as I have been for the last few years. I wanted decent speeds and grunt, a straight slim body & locking chuck so I can twist it to manually nip up screws plus I also wanted removable batteries and this was about the only one I could find that ticked all those boxes. Most cordless Screwdrivers only run at about 180-200rpm but this Hitachi is three times faster plus most others now seem to be the compact pistol type design which is fine for most jobs but no good for tight spaces or for manual twisting.

Found local stock on eBay for $170 then found them a lot cheaper from the US (AU$115) including shipping however the chargers were 110V only :( Did what I should've done straight away and Googled the model and found them on sale at Masters for only $108 and although that's only a $20 saving from their normal price I consider $108 an absolute bargain compared to the other prices I was spotting elsewhere.

Most OzBargainers would probably be more than happy with the little $50-$60 Bosch IXO Bunnings sell so this probably wont be much of a bargain however for those oddballs like me who need specific features then these Hitachis are far better and $108 is a very good price.

Hope this helps someone out anyway.

EDIT: I just used mine here at work to install a few monitors onto arms and whoa it's brilliant… and I'm comparing it to the $250 Metabo Screwdriver I purchased here a few years back. The Hitachi is lightweight, powerful and the straight body allows you to fling it around a lot easier too. Can't wait to use it at home! Might even get a 2nd one before the price goes back up.

Personally I have a $20 ozito one and it's been fairly decent as a screw driver.

    • Absolutely. Some (if not all) the cheap stuff would be perfectly fine for most 'normal' people but for freaks like me who need specific features then most if not all the cheapies I've researched just can't cut it… but that's good feedback for others anyway as $20 is a bargain!

    • I bought a non chargeable one from go Lo years ago for 6 bucks, it takes 4 AA which is use eneloops (of course) a have had it for 13 years and it's still going while other screwdrivers I have had have come and gone. Definitely doesn't have locking but i have been manually tightening screws and with it anyway, does run at a decent speed and has a straight body. From memory it was some Aussie Tools brand (made in China of course)

  • Nice deal. It would be a steal if it came with a charger!

You messing with me TOWK? Yes, it comes complete with a charger & two batteries… and a Phillips bit to boot!

No??… Decent value, might order one now.

      • He probably thought removable battery meant something like the one I described

  • Nice, looks like a mechanical clutch too. My straight Bosch has an awful electronic one. Plenty of torque though.

Loving this Screwdriver now that I've been using it for a few days! SO much grunt yet in a convenient size & package. Couldn't recommend it more!
