Should I buy Alaska Airmiles with my 28 Degrees card or my Woolworths Qantas FF card?

Help,
I want to purchase 130K Alaska Miles at a cost of approx $2255USD.
My dilemma is should I use my 28 Degrees card and pay no fees or my Woolworth's Qantas credit card to receive 2300 (approx) FF points?

I am madly scrounging up QFF points for a big trip I have planned, so really want the points……so
I was wondering…..can I buy using 28 Degrees CC, then pay that off with my Woollies CC so I get both advantages.
Can this work?

Cheers

  • I have both the same credit cards.

Put simply, where overseas conversion is involved, I normally put it on the 28 degrees card. The FX rates that 28 degrees offer over vs. Woolies will be advantageous over the points. 2300 FF points only equals about 60% of a $25 Woolies gift card. Therefore as long as you save at least 20 bucks in overseas coversion differences, the 28 degrees card wins.

  • Bear in mind woolies slugs you 3% of every overseas transaction.

    $2245 USD
    Times 1.1 to convert

the 3% fee you pay (for the 2400 ish points) is equal to $74

    Not a bargain.

  • Thanks to you both, but what about my last question about paying one with the other?
The converted amount for the flights would be in $AUD so shouldn't have to pay the 3%.

  • Oops, can't do that - I just checked on the 28 degrees site.

  • Its going to cost you more than $2250 USD to buy 130k miles.

From a quick calculation you will need 3 purchases

    35,000 miles + 16,000 bonus $962.50 x 2 purchases
    25,000 miles + 7,500 bonus $687.50 x 1 purchase

    = $2612.50 USD add 7.5% tax
    ~ $2808 USD

    ~ $3111 AUD
