Bose QC15, $339.15 (15% off) @ Myers (Chatswood, but Receipt Provided)

120

Not trying too hard, wanted to pick up good headphones for the wife.

Tried Myer.
Me: "Can you do me a deal?"
Him: "Of course".
long pause….
Me: "What can you do for me?"
long pause….
Him: (Laughing) "15% that's the maximum we can do."

Sounded from the way he said it that Myer have a policy of giving 15%
on lots of things?
Also sounded like he usually haggled the amount to less than that,
but couldn't be bothered as I fixed him with an Ozbargaining stare.

Anyway, I was happy to buy at that price.

  • Myer are great for doing this. The staff aren't there to haggle so more often than not they'll offer you their best price straight up

    • Yeah, I've learnt they can really do deals if you ask nicely even on Bose stuff. That being said, Boxing Day sales were a terrible mess and people (i.e. other shoppers) can get nasty! Fortunately Apple were willing to price match after I missed out on a Soundlink.

Also on special in the Qantas FF shop.
    48,000 points or
    28,800 points + $147.84

(based on buying a Myer $500.- giftcard for 74700 points, that comes to $321.29)

  • I'll buy your points off you at the rate of 1c/point if you want

    • +2

why would you want to do that?

    • You would be paying $480 for enough points to buy it from Qantas FF shop when you can just pay $339 and get it at Myer.

      • +2

        Don't buy points at Qantas.
Qantas points is for us 'lucky ones' that travel for work and end up with 200k + point balances every year.

      • Well if you're going to spend 48000 points. I'd rather give you $480 to have you buy it.

48000 points to me is worth more than $480

        Win win?

        • care to explain why these are worth so much to you?
(and we're not even talking about how to transfer points… we're not family are we?)

        • +1

I guess davluong wants to use the points to upgrade an economy to business fare.

48k points to upgrade (assuming long haul to Europe or US) @ $480 is cheaper than the 4-5k price differential between economy and business

For under $1800 One Way, seems like a good deal to me?

These are fantastic noise cancelling headphones.
I usually wouldnt go bose as I see them as extremely overpriced, but for noise cancelling it is hard to beat them.

Bought these a few months ago before a series of trips to the US for work and they have been fantastic.

I originally went for the QC-3's for $330 including 2 years extended warranty at JB Hi Fi, I changed my mind in the end as I found the QC-15's were much more comfortable over long periods. In the end the QC-15's were $297 from JB with 2 years extended warranty as well.

I remember the deal to be one of the best transactions ever. Absolutely no fuss from the sales guy, and he was the one who offered me the price with no haggling on my side at all. I think the only caveat was that the extended warranty had to be part of the deal. So thumbs up to the sales guy at JB Hi Fi in Mandurah.

Also when I got to the US I found that these were more expensive over there. $299USD plus sales tax, which would make it ~$350AUD if not more.

  • Anyone else manage to get this price? Do you think they'll do the same deal on QC20? They are the same RRP.

    • I think he would have given me 15% off anything in the store.
So, surely he would give you 15% on the QC20's.

      • I'd go for the QC20's as well. Ever tried to sleep with the big over-ear noise cancelling headphones? In-ear is better. and the feedback on these headphones on Amazon is quite amazing.

I already have a good pair (Audio Technica, over-the-ear) but if I need new I know what to look for.

        • Dammit. Their website only seems to list the QC20i, not the 20.

        • The only difference is the remote has more buttons on QC20i. It'll still work perfectly fine with an Android or other audio device.

I'm currently posting this whilst listening to my QC20i's. It is hard to find a deal on those as it's one of the newer products (typically new Bose stuff is excluded from sales- e.g. Soundtouch speakers weren't included in the Boxing Day sales) but you can try your luck!

ps. Agreed with person above who said sleeping with over-ear is difficult. It's uncomfortable to lean against whereas the Bose QC20 is nice and soft to lean on things/just fall asleep!

        • Are you sure, because that's not what they claim.

So the remote functions will still work on any non Apple device?

Anyway, I didn't try Myer because they didn't have QC20, but I tried DJ, and no luck. They can only price match I was told and since it's not an advertised special, there wasn't anything they could do for me.

As for sleeping in them.. I would just remove the headphones. If you're asleep you probably aren't going to be listening intently anyway, may as well take them off.

you don't travel a lot do you :)

        • Sorry, remote probably won't work but the headphones work fine. Some reviews implied that it might work on select devices but I wouldn't bet on it. Is this a deal breaker for you?

As for sleeping with them in… if you're on a plane or a train, there's a lot of ambient noise which once you've tried ANC, you won't want to go back. I really enjoyed my train ride today with the QC20's in! I could see kids making noise and a couple of people behind me talking, but there was this nice sense of calmness which helped me fall asleep.

        • Good point. Forgot about that.

As for the 20i.. if the extra buttons the 20i has that the 20 doesn't have don't work, it's not a problem, but if the buttons both models share don't work on Android either, then that would be a deal breaker.

        • Best to google or ask Bose directly then IMO. I don't have an Android phone to try it out on.

    • Why don't you guys just go to OfficeWorks to pricematch this: http://www.valuebasket.com.au/en_AU/Bose-QuietComfort-15-Aco…

      • OW doesn't price match grey importers.

        • Fair enough but I got a pair pricematched for $321 from OW a few days ago, no fuss. I know of another guy who did the same.

Your mileage will vary. It depends on who you talk to. Some people don't know better and let it pass. Others will say they officially don't price match unless local warranty is provided (i.e. it's AU stock). Others will tell you there's a white list of retailers they accept PMs on, and this isn't one of them.

It all depends on who you get. I've had people turn down even legit PMs. I ask them if the product is in stock, he scans it and says yes. Then I ask him to PM, he goes to the back to get one, then somehow it's out of stock, even though he scanned it earlier and it told him it was in stock. That's one way to avoid doing a PM.

Officially they don't PM grey importers. But you can sometimes get lucky like you did.

        • Yeah some stores are hit or miss. I've seen people in Alexandria get told they needed to wait for Store Manager who wasn't around at the time to approve it.

Thanks OP, I went to Myer Chatswood today with the same opening line "Can you do me a deal?", first got offered $350, I countered with 15% off and got accepted. Pretty happy with the new headphone.
