Sherlock Series 3 Blu Ray $23.98 @ JB Hi-Fi - Part of 20% off All BBC & ABC DVD's and Blu Ray's

200

JB Hi-Fi is currently offering 20% off ABC and BBC DVD's and Blu Ray's.

Easily the pick of the bunch is Sherlock Series 3 Blu Ray for $23.98 (or $19.98 on DVD) which was only released in Australia yesterday. And unusually it's quite a deal cheaper than importing from the usual suspects from the UK.

The rest can be found here and includes Doctor Who and David Attenborough releases, but definitely price compare on those:

      much detective..

    • Even if you find such scenes confronting, great tv like torchwood series 4 in particular is great tv… Besides that fact not every show is for everyone . Lots of people here don't like the Big Bang Theory, does it bother me ? Nope… I also find Breaking Bad boring, pretty sure that's just me on that one…

Yep, everyone's different. I'm not too interested in a 22 episode marathon of Elementary, but I love BBC Sherlock. I think it's one of the most visually awesome and interesting shows on TV. But it's definitely becoming a show you need to have watched from the beginning, in order to follow the character arc and progression.

Although most TV series plots are totally implausible, I find the plots in Sherlock to be too far fetched and sooo much padded material in each episode. They could have cut most episodes down to 45 minutes easily, and avoided so much plot wandering.

SPOILER ALERT STOP READING IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN SHERLOCK
Sherlock can't outsmart the final mastermind so he just cracks it and shoots him dead? Really? Wow, the writers really ran out of coke on that one.

And now, Moriati is back? Really? Can't come up with something new? Oh, and he still controls every computer in the world with a single keyboard, apparently.

Compare that to the plots in Elementary and you will probably find that one is a good mystery, and the other is an over produced fantasy.

The suggestion that Sherlock is gay (in the UK production) doesn't 'confront' me, and it's not a homophobic statement to think its an odd character attribute for him. I just find it ridiculous in that context and frankly, it is just trying to play to a (potentially) wider audience by doing so.

The final factor really is - who doesn't like checking out Lucy Liu 22 times a season? Maybe the grinners who are overjoyed at just one thing about the new Sherlock - his restrained homosexual love for Dr John Watson.

PS. TV week, don't you dare steal my comments and use them in your own review again!

I definitely agree they aren't going in a good direction trying to hint Sherlock as gay, because it's not for representation to actual gay people, essentially, it's queerbaiting. Moffat's hinting at it and playing the "Johnlock" shippers, many of whom fetishise the ship, to lead them on, but he will never actually expand on that and is essentially making a mockery out of it (a lesbian character falls in love with Sherlock because he's ~such a special snowflake~? Please.)
I was incredibly disappointed by Series 3. Personally, the storylines are what hooked me to it and I actively ignored the other problematic parts of Moffat's writing. I guess in the 2 years the rest of the fandom obsessed over theories and ships, I actually realised everything problematic with the show. I don't think it's fair to compare it to Elementary because they're very different but even by itself, Moffat really did not live up to expectations.
EDIT: Oops, sorry, meant to put this as a reply to giggles' comment!

  • Good find
remember though its only 3 episodes long !

    • Each episode is 90 minutes long though.

      • Fair call but that's 6 episodes at best which is still pricey IMO

        • +2

6 episodes of quality > 24 episodes of average? LOL

Speaking of which, what's the quality of The Walking Dead Season 4 looking like? Trying to decide if it's worth the iTunes purchase, it's so expensive.

        • +1

Depends how you look at it.

If you consider each episode a 'movie' (production values and length is equivalent), then you're getting 3 movies for that price.

          That's a bargain.

        • I'm finding it rather enjoyable. This is coming from someone who loved the first season and got bored after the second. Carl is worse than ever though. Someone needs to feed that little shit to the zombies.

Awesome, thanks OP! Have been waiting for a good price for the series 1-3 boxset. At $47.98 it's cheaper than when amazon UK had it on sale.

  • +2

Cheers, just went in to JB at Macquarie and got it. They have the season 1-3 box set on bluray as well if anyone is interested

    • Thanks for the heads up - I wasn't able to choose Macquarie as pick-up store, I guess they haven't updated their stock levels. Will pick it up sometime tomorrow.

anyone foresee a general 20% off all bluray promo put on top of this? 20% off promo price?

    • Wouldn't that be great, especially with a lot of people recently getting the Coke Rewards JB vouchers.

  • Cheers OP for posting! The Doctor Who sale may be tieing in with the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular.

  • Expired already! Only a two week sale! Without Notice! Blasphemous!
